An idea for the per encounter/per day discussion.
Encounter Spell (Metamagic)
The spell is regained at the end of the encounter or after a few minutes of time where the caster casts no spells.
For spontaneous casters, the spell slot is regained, but may only be used for the exact same spell until the caster rests to regain spells.
Level modification: +2 (Maybe +1?)
Only certain spells may be used with Encounter Spell (direct damage, most other offensive spells, short term buffs, ?).
'Plot-busting' spells may not be used with Encounter Spell (most divinations, teleport, dominate, etc).
Long term buffs may be used but their duration is reduced to one minute.
This is just a rough draft; there are too many spells to determine suitability for each one.
