IMHO, Endurance is like in skill in that:
- You can train for it; and
- You should get better at it as you become more generally awesome.

Having an Endurnce skill also removes Many rules-sets that were written into the game in 3e. Each time there was an environmental condition there were whole new rules to deal with it.

Now they can all be rolled into Endurance checks: heat, cold, holding breath, forced march, etc. Ad now some characters can actually be better at those things. One mechanic for all :)

All that said...

Endurance as a skill - 1d20+(1/2 level)+(Con)+(5 if trained)

Con check - 1d20+(1/2 level)+(Con)

The only difference between the two is that you can be trained in Endurance.

Honestly, I see it as a fair house rule to have Endurance just be a Con check. When untrained, that's all it is anyways. Some people will prefer it this way, after all.

Sorry I could not resist

I guess the attack hit my Will Def

I've come to the conclusion that Endurance is Manual Labor. Whenever you can put some elbow grease into it you use Endurance. It's the catch-all brute force skill.

If you can't pick the lock, you can chop the door down with an axe.

Endurance is already a skill in SW Saga.

Force March: After the first 8 hours you need to make a DC 10 check +2 per hour. Condition tract effect on failure.

Hold Breath: You can hold your breath for a number of rounds equal to Con. After that DC 10+ 2 per round to continue. Fail and you fall down the track, reach -5 and you're drowning.

Ignore Hunger: You can go without food for a number of days equal to your con score. After that DC 10 +1 per day... condition track et cetera

Ignore Thirst: After 3xCon Score hours of water. 10+2 per day (Wow... just as easy to sustain as no food? I was expecting 2 per 8 hours).

Run: Rounds equal to your con score. After that DC 10 + 1 per round.

Sleep In Armor: DC 10 for light, 15 med and 20 for heavy.

Swim: Each hour you must make a DC 15 check or move -1 on the track. +2 per hour, -5 to DC if treading water.

Not sure what will replace the condition track effects....

'Cause there no such a thing as a Fort Save anymore, unless you want the environment, or alcohol, or what-have-you, to make +X attacks vs FORT?

This was the very reason it was included as a skill in SWSE (which also went over to having defences instead of saving throws).

As destil mentions above, there are a range of things which you use the endurance skill for now which would have been handled by Fort saves in the past.

Cheers

Man, these sound like they were designed for jedi!! An average person goes 30 hours without water, 10 days without food, swims for a solid hour before making checks!!

Another thing Endurance could deal with is Rituals. I could see a ritual that takes extended periods of time to finish having Endurance Skill Checks to see if your PC can sustain the ritual long enough to complete it.
