I don't mean to disrespect the game, but why is halo (I'm note sure which I played, I think it was two) loved so much. I don't play 1st person shooters much, but when I have (things like Unreal tournement 2005 (is it?), Quake two) I could see why they were liked. But Halo, which seems very basic (aliens with not so good AI that you need to shoot), AFAICS doesn't seem to be one of my greats. From what I've seen it's been deified.

I did have fun when I played it but mainly because of the guys I played it with.

So why do you like Halo (one or two)

Single player was solid. It didn't have much that was wrong with it. AI was pretty good, especially compared to some of the games from the same time period. It's fun.

Multiplayer, though, is AWESOME. I have two friends who are roommates. They each owned an Xbox before they started rooming together. They actually bought another 30" HDTV just so they could play Halo head to head. We regularly have 8-player games at their place. It's virtually the only thing we play.

I've only played multiplayer on a friend's box. It's a good, solid, head-to-head game. Lots of oddball competitions and quirks. Definitely something I look forward to playing when I get the chance.

That said, I do think it's a bit over-hyped. Not exactly enough to get me drooling over the X-Box over any other system. Of course, RPGs, console games, and Soul Reaver type action games are more my style than FPS are.

The storyline is really good, and playing through singleplayer the first time is a GREAT experience(and playing co-op on the hardest difficulty is just plain insane).

But it truly does shine in mutliplayer. I'm not sure why its so amazing compared to other FPS games, but it just plain is. Almost in the way that Goldeneye was(and still is) one of the best FPS games ever made. Its just plain fun.

Simply really, it's a console FPS, the ones you mention were for the PC. Compared to other console FPS it deserves to be put on a platform, comparing it to PC FPS released about the same time and you get another story.

Cool, thats pretty much what I wanted to know.

When I saw it though it just seemed like they were just killing the aliens without any challenge... Maybe they were really good :)

Thanks.

Well I don't personally know anyone that can easily kill the aliens by themself on Legendary. Most of us have problems even with co-op on Legendary.

But mainly we play multiplayer. Having 16 man games every Thursday night is awesome when you can actually talk to the people you are playing against without lugging 16 computers around.

Also there's the big advantage of being able to actually throw things at the person that shot you in the back.

I liked Halo a lot for what it has, but it had some serious shortcomings IMO. While the combat is well done, the graphics are great, etc. etc., the AI and variety of encounters is seriously lacking. You always know exactly how your enemy is going to react to you, and in what numbers, troop ratio, etc. Storyline-wise, it's awesome, for a FPS. FPS's rarely have a story outside of "There's the bad guys. Sic!", but Halo had a steadily increasing tension, a few big surprises, and an acceptable end.

Too big of a deal is made of it, though. I know way too many people who treat it as some holy relic that cannot be denied. It's a game, and a good one, but not worth all the fuss made over it.
