ENnies 2002 Judges Selection

I would like to be considered for a judge this year for the Enies. I didn’t put my name in the hat last year because I was busy working on my MBA, but that is behind me and I now have the time needed to devote to reviewing the items sent in for review.

I have played D&D since 1980 (actually owned books since 1978 but didn’t start playing until 1980). Spent a few years playing Traveler and Shadowrun, but I always seem to gravitate back to D&D. I am currently DMing 3e for a small group on a bi-weekly basis, using mostly published adventures.

I have been semi-active on Eric’s and Morris’s boards since long before 3e came out, mostly as a lurker but I post when I feel I can contribute to a conversation.

I used to work for a publishing company and I did some layout work, so I know some of the tricks publishers use to make their books fill out to proper page count when they don’t have enough content.

I do live in the US and can help with the shipping of products, I even have extra shipping boxes left over from when I was selling knives and swords on-line a couple of years ago.

I know I am not as active on these boards as many of the nominees are, but I will do a thorough and fair job if elected.

What the hey? I'll volenteer too.

I am - of course - a Canadian.

I'm an aspiring writer, and can appreciate a well written product. Been playing 3e weekly for a year and a half now (often acting as my DM's "demiurge" since he doesn't know the rules as well as I do), and I'll have a decent amount of actual 3e DM experience by this summer. And after playing 2e for years, I can spot unbalanced or simply overcomplicated mechanics from, well, from normal reading distance anyhow.

Not that any of that matters, 'cause you all know you want to vote for me! :D

id like to nominate :)

Hi

Well id love to be a judge, so i got to nominate myself ;)

Criteria: Well im an old school 1E player played since the early 80's, got back into 3E and although i havent played much (hard to get a regular group down here) i am always searching for good quality products for any future DnD Endevour...

You can bet, being an aussie ill be honest and striaght forward and if something sucks, i have no reservations about saying so.

I believe that people should have a large range of choices and also have access to any information possible in choosing thier gaming material, these awards are crucial for that and it will be a great honour to help in promoting GREAT quality 3E/d20 products...

Okay, if i dont get the job (which is highly unlikely ;) ) i would like to nominate a judge...

TeflonBilly

This guy really knows his stuff!

He got a group that played on irc so eager and excited in 5 minutes of Dming than anyone i have ever played with :)

If you are still around and want to nominate yourself TB, youve got my vote :)

Other quals are hiding from me at the moment!

Hmm... Sure, I'll post about me...

I'd like to be considered for a judging position.

Like many others, I've been playing and DMing D&D (all versions) for a while (I started in '88). I started lurking on Eric Noah's site almost as soon as it opened, and have been posting on it for some while now, although I usually only post if I have something meaningful to contribute. I'm mostly active in the Rules form, because while I think I have a great grasp of the d20 and Third Edition rules, I know that knowledge isn't complete.

I've been working as a Teaching Assistant in one form or another for the last five years, so I'm quite familiar with grading and marking products (well, assignments) based on a objective (and, if necessary, subjective) scale.

I'm very discriminate when it comes to selecting new gaming products, and while I don't post reviews to any specific sites, I often give (in my opinion) well thought-out and informative reviews of them to my other gaming friends.

I'm from Canada though, so I can't try for the US sneak-in option...

Uh... PS: Vote for me :)

Last year, I was in the jury - under my old handle "The shadow of my former self" - and I'd like to do it again this year.

I've been playing RPGs - as a DM, mostly - for around 15 years now and I've read more supplements of more games than I can easily remember. ;)
(A)D&D was always one of the games to hold a special place in my heart and, since the release of 3e, I've come to run it more often once again.

(In case it matters, I've been a member of this community since quite a while before 3e came out - though I was mostly a scooper for Eric and a lurker on the boards until shortly after its release.)

edit: I'm not in the US.

Hello, I'm From the US
The reasons I think you should vote for me is that I! am a very great guy. Okay thats not a good reason. But I have been a DM for aver 15 years. And have purchased a lot of material over those years (close to a thousand US dollars worth). So I have a great eye for consistency and for balance.

Am I qualified, or does my tenuous connection with Natural 20 and ENWorld disqualify me?

If I am qualified, I'll toss my hat in.

I am in the US.

My biggest qualification is for most readers, I don't really need to tell you.

Have been part of the community for over a year.

Been a staff reviewer for the better part of a year, including winning a "people's choice" award (okay, one of a flurry of polls) here on ENWorld.

I've probably already read half of the material up for nomination anyways. So bring it on!

I, too, would like to volunteer. I am a US-based citizen.

In crafting your own campaign world, one must be careful in your selecton of information to utilize. Options must be read through, and the full implications of any and all additions must be considered from every possible angle. With my limited budget, I have selected gaming works that I thought would work well in any environment - and experienced the difficulties of attempting to integrate campaign-specific information to my world. Not only that, but I have an eye for loopholes, which comes from having a player who enjoys utilizing every hole he comes across to the detriment of those around him, as well as the party. This gives me the ability to look at a product from an objective view and determine how good it is, given a scale to utilize. I have no qualms with saying that a given product is bad, or that a given product is excellent. What I say is my honest opinion, garnered from past experiences in gaming sessions, as well as my opinion on how well it would integrate into a setting of any type or genre.

I have been working on a homebrew campaign setting for several years now. Not to mention that, I have a good eye for gaming material, and I've grown up with dice in my hands, so to speak (since '93, but I'm only 14). I've been out here on the boards since November 2001 or so, and while I'm not the most familiar face on the block, I've got somewhere around 600 posts total (counting both the new boards, and the old).

I am also an excellent English student (Received an A last semester, and am getting a B+ this semester), and I am very concerned with grammar and spelling. I've tried writing, and am still attempting to get some of my work published (none of it is d20 info, however). I have lots of free time, which also indicates that I am a good student. I can finish 300-page books in several hours and still get something out of it and remember a lot of it, and explain important points and ideas.

Thus, I sum up - with an eye for inventive uses of mechanics and open-ended ideas, as well as the usefulness of a product in varied gaming environments and settings, I believe that I would make a good choice for this position.
