Before I begin, please understand that I think the judges have done a TREMENDOUS job in the past. However, as was previously noted, it's very hard to break through the block of incumbents -- with good reason to be sure!!

But has there been any consideration of limiting a person's license to judge to say three consecutive years, or some other arbitary term? Just a question of curiousity, since it's obvious that more than five people are willing (and likely qualified) to become ENnies judges.

And FWIW, I voted for several of the incumbents again this year :).

My post count is in the 800's becasue of the move to these boards. Add my posts from the previous EN World boards, and my totals approach Crothian-like levels (without any Pantheon/Hivemind associations to inflate them).

I'm in the running because I'm well thought of Goblinoid (I think anyway).

I like to think it's for a reason.

I'm an incumbent because I was well thought of last year, and the year before as well.

I'm not sure what point you were trying to make (and if I'm reading in subtext that isn't there, I apologize), but if you think post count is so crucial to vote-getting, I have to wonder why.

Everyone knows I get voted into these things because I have a dynamite ass, and for no other reason:)

Actually, I had heard...

T-Bill is all.

T-Bill is divine.

T-Bill is a wicked drinking companion...

Ok, that last bit came out as much more "reverent" than I had hoped... :D

Only 300 people of about 9000 registered users have voted so far... (!!!!)

Which makes me kinda sad :(

I'll note that having the results visible before you even vote does likely make a number of people decide not to bother. The (probable) winners have had a lead from day 1, and being able to see that can make voting seem kind of pointless.

The low number of votes also tends to bring the validity of the awards into question, to a degree. It's a bit hard to carry off the idea that these awards are in some way the "will of EN World, the most popular 3E site around" when only a small number of people vote for the judges. We can only hope that more people will vote once the judges are done, or it's gonna look really, really sad.

On incumbancy - I also voted for incumbants, because they are the ones I think are most qualified for the job. One might want to consider, though, that if we always have the same judges, that the awards are somewhat less the "Ennies" and are a bit more the "These Five Guysies". Not an issue over a year or two, but in the long run, folks might start looking a little askance at it.

You could see the results before you voted? I couldn't.

Regarding the low voter-to-member ratio, what was it like last year? I don't remember it being much different, but I could be wrong. Regardless, we see this even in real life, with the vast majority of people who are eligible to vote not voting in elections. I honestly don't know if it really impacts upon the legitimacy of the awards. My own guess is that it doesn't. Would I like more people to vote? Sure. But I have to assume that those who don't either are satisfied with the way things are done, or are apathetic about it all. Morrus makes the process easy to understand, and announces it prominently. As the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Hi Teflon!

I'll reserve judgement on your ass until I get a chance to check it out at GenCon. Wear something tight :)

Maybe you have misunderstood me. Maybe not. Either way, an apology is not necessary.

A member gains recognition and perhaps respect ( if charismatic like you TB) through posting.

Do more posts = more opportunity to be "well thought of"?

If so, then postcount IS one essential element (yes, yes, not the only one) to vote-getting.

So how important IS postcount? How many are too few? 50? 100? Certainly. 600? ...Maybe.

The only reason I singled you out was to establish a low end of a target post count range for an aspiring judge like myself. Mentioning Crothian on the other end of the range did not seem necessary.

I could have easily said instead:

...It's interesting that of all the likely judges for this year ( leaders in the poll ) the poster with the least post count has over 200 more posts than I... Looks like I'm gonna have to get busy...
--

BFG

LOL, looks like I've caused a little confusion. My answer to your question was: "No, I am not unable to see the list." In other words, "Yes, I can see the list." But I don't see Simon Collins listed. So, he's not running? Sorry...

Anyhow, I was not able to read the entire candidates thread, but I think that only people who I recognize posting here should get votes. I also give preference to reviewers as they have already spent a lot of time getting to know the products out there. Of course, I will be voting for other people, too. Thanks. :)

You could see the results before you voted? I couldn't.

On the polls here, there's a View Results button you can push before voting, to see the results. I didn't happen to notice if this poll had such a button, but all the others have, so I would assume this one did as well.

i'd like to send out love to the 12 people who voted for me.

i forgot to vote for myself and just entered on a lark.

i have a question about the website category: are you folks gonna judge on improvements in the past year or total coolness factor?

d20 CONAN site rules JOO!!!
