Enterprise - The Crossing
Trip and several other members of the Enterprise crew are possessed by ghostly beings after the ship is swallowed up by a massive alien vessel.

I've read a couple of places where the cast and/or crew mentioned this was like working on an olden days Trek because they had to act like they were interacting with Incorporeal lifeforms. :)

Yeah, this one had "old trek" liberally slathered over it...

I thought so too, which kept me watching. Until the end when Archer and Co. triumphantly blew the alien ship to kingdom come.

Its not that they didn't have it coming, but in classic Trek, Kirk would have foiled their plot, somehow saved their vessel {or found a safe haven for them a la the Kelvin}, and then moralized at them for a good five minutes.

Not to mention found a way to 1) put the moves on one and 2) beat one up even though they're made helium vapor.

Nice effects works, though.

Finally got to see it...

Overall it was an OK episode. It started off quite good but I found that it lost a lot of steam near the end. Couple points I wanted to raise:

1. Why is it that pretty much every encounter with aliens, Archer gets a bad feeling about their motive? And then be proven right? For once I would like Archer's mistrust to be proven wrong. I was kind of hoping for that in this episode, but instead the aliens were bad yet again.

2. Can someone explain to me how the Doc's plan worked? How did flooding the ship with CO2 remove the aliens? I missed that part.

3. Was the crew hiding inside a nascelle? Or was it a compartment below the warp nascelle that ran parallel to it? Are all parts of the ship accessible like this where command controls can be easily moved?

4. I wasn't impresses with the ending of the show. It just kind of ended. The Doc tells Tripp they need to unlock doors, followed by a pan of the ship going to warp and then credits. What kind of ending is that? Did I miss something?

I loved the interior of the alien vessel and the atmosphere it projected - very well done. But the story ran a little flat for me. Still, it was an alright watch and better than some of the other episodes so far this season.

1. The guy's a captain for a reason, he's got instincts. All the good Trek captains have had it, IMO.

2. It was presumed that if the host died, the creature died as well. So they brought the "Crossed Over" folks to near-death in hopes that they would be released.

3. They were staying in the catwalk. These used it before as it has better sheilding and metallic composition than the rest of the ship. I forget where it is located but near the nacelles sounds right.

4. It would have been nice to have a little more resolution to the ending but I liked it. As others have said: very TOS. And because of that it was cool. They could have had some reflection on what happened but that could be handled in future eps.

General comment: As for the destruction of the other ship, I didn't think they had any options. It was either them or Enterprise.

T'Pol mentioned in the show after having linked with them that the ship was pretty much on its last leg and that's why the aliens were attempting to take over the crew. The catwalk runs along the nacel for repair work and is enclosed, of course, so they can make repairs in space, and heavily shielded I assume because it is a such a vital part of the ship or maybe because that type of shielding protects the crew from some sort of residual byproduct.

That really surprised me too. This being Star Trek, I was expecting Archer and Co. to offer to help the aliens fix their ship rather than blow it away.

Not a bad episode, had a sort of classic Trek feel (the alien ship swallowing them up kind of reminded me of V'Ger). There was a lot of familiar ground here, but also done uniquely enough so as not to feel like a clone of an episode we've already seen.

Except Janeway.

Oh wait, you said good captains. Never mind... [smirk]

Yeah, there was a whole episode from earlier this season when they holed up in there.

Yeah, but that's because it's the way the writers wrote it. It didn't feel very Trek-like though.
