EnWiki code of manners

I was wondering what the general stance on posting other peoples creations (with credit given of course) to EnWiki without asking is?

The reason I ask is because I love the idea of EnWiki, but when I look at a page and see it empty (or also irritatingly, with a link to a PDF download) I want to help out.

My first order of business is the feats page, and asking permission from every author is slowing me down.

How does Enworld feel about posting other peoples work to the wiki without asking (again - giving credit)?

P.S. I can understand both answers. I have been asking until this pole gives me a definitive majority answer.

I'd say no, personally. Presumably if they wanted their stuff on the Wiki, they'd put it there themselves.

I have mixed feelings on this. One one hand, like Nift says, it feel s a bit invasive. On the other hand, I haven't really done any Wiki entry, so I haven't decided to tackle converting any of my stuff over to the Wiki yet, and someone at least giving ideas on How to go about doing it (acceptable format, etc.) would be good.

I think the best thing you could do would be to create some templates we can use to get things up on the Wiki, making it easier for us to get our stuff added to it. JMHO. YMMV.

I agree, I'm really on the fence with it. Ive started to update the segments with formatting and acceptable formatting examples. (though it keeps going down and the formats revert).

Check out the feat section for an example.

It's so easy to ask permission. Just post in the thread or PM the author. That way they might help out too.

In addition to having people PM the author, I'd suggest that people either put up something in their post to the effect of "Go ahead and put this in the wiki if you want to" or "Just link this right now, it's not done yet" or "I'm not quite ready to link it there yet" to streamline the process. I'm maintaining three Custom Compendiums on the Wizards boards (one each for races, classes, and monsters), and from that experience I can say that PMing a dozen people to ask if I should include their creations and keeping track of who did what and where can be a pain.

How about this suggestion: A sticky of homebrew guidelines for if you want your thing added to the wiki when it is complete. Perhaps including formatting guides and things to say if you want it added to the wiki for you.


I just want to help this tool bloom ASAP!
