Started w/ some version of D&D in elementary school (3rd or 4th?), so its been a while. 1E in middle school, 2E 8th grade/HS/undergrad with some Paranoia, Shadowrun 2nd and Vampire/Mage/Werewolf/oWoD before Gehenna/Ascension/Apocolypse in undergrad, 3E in grad school until 4E now. Guess that 25+.

There are numbers bigger than 25+?

50% have been playing 25 years or more. It seems that the most meaningful breakdown would be to separate them into their respective groups. Since D&D made its debut in 1974, the longest somebody could have possibly been playing is 35 years. I'd venture a guess that the majority in the 25+ category started sometime in the '80s though.

Methinks the poll numbers don't go high enough.

Yeah...I had no idea when I started the poll. (That, and my math sucks. Apparently I still think it is the year 2000, when 25 years of gaming brought us back to the dawn of RPGs. Whoops --- off by 9. Should have gone to 35+

Still, when you look around, you have to be impressed with the amassed experience. The first category alone is 1,600 years of experience. (If my math is right....)

I'm still a tad concerned that we don't have too much new blood.

That's an excellent point. I run across people from time to time who are really interested in the idea of RPGs. The woman at Staples who printed and bound the most recent issue of my zine was asking a lot of questions. She was intrigued by the imagination and stories that could be told. If my gaming group wasn't full, I'd invite her to game. Maybe next campaign.

I think that there are people out there willing to give the dice a go, it's just a matter of making a good sales pitch and catching them before they start playing WoW. :)
