Epic Level Question?

Alright, assume you're an archer with a mundane shortbow and arrow. You have average stats all across the board, and no armor. Assuming that nothing got in the arrow's way, what level would the archer (assume it's a fighter with no bow-related feats) have to be to be able to hit himself from behind?

Well, assuming you're on earth, with an equatorial diameter of 44 000 kms (from memory... but at that scale, what's a few thousand kilometers :D )

and a shortbow has 60 feet (20 meters, rounded for simplicity) of range increment. That's 2200 times the range increment, meaning a -4400 on your attack roll.

I don't know about epic but a missile wapon has a ten range increment maximum range...

Boy, do I have a boring saturday evening :D

Sorry Tar, but I think you forgot a little bit of calculation.

Mean radius of the earth = 6.37e6 meters (according to my physics book)

Circumfrence of a circle = pi * diameter = pi * 2 * 6.37e6 = 4.00e7 (keeping siginificant figures the same)

Short bow range increment = 20 meters (Approximately. Does anybody have a PHB from England? Alternatively, what's the range of the shortbow in the Star Wars RPG? I think that uses meters.)

4.00e7/20 = 2.00e6

2.00e6 * range increment (-2) = - 4.00e6 to attack roll.

Because of the approximations, closest I can say is that you'd need to be somewhere around level 8 million to pull this off.

You'd probably be better off getting to level 1 million, then just rolling until you get a natural 20 :D

Yep, you're right. I forgot to convert the km in m.

I knida considered the point closed after hitting minus 4400 to hit anyway, so I didn't check my math to closely:D

And what if you get 20 on your roll? Is there a rule (feat, ability) in epic allowing to bypass the 10 times range increment limit?

Ya, there;s a feat that allows you to hit anything in sight at no range penalty. So, you'd need to be able to see your own back to hit yourself. I know of no way to do that.

What if you used mirrors :D

BTW Moe Ronalds, why did you want to know that???

1st. He shoots the arrow straight up, and then lies down on the ground face down. The arrow comes back down and hits him in the back.

Hmmm... 1st level fighter, with dex 13, no armor...

He shoots against AC 10, his bonuses are +2 to hit, so he must roll 8 or more to shoot his own back!!!!!! unless you consider the archer prone, helpless, boud, or something...
