EQ RPG: It's Your World Now...

So, S&S could use the D20 rules without using the D20 logo?

It'll lack the name recognition of D20 but that shouldn't matter 'cause it's EQ?

Elaborate please. This is very interesting. :)

The use of the Open Gaming License does not mandate the use of the D20 STL (Trademark license). If you forego the STL, you can include chargen and advancement rules, for example. You lose the ability to market your game using any of the D20 or D&D trademarks.

This is exactly correct. I hope this opens the floodgates of non-d20 rpgs. As much as I love d20, I would like some alternatives too.

I am writing an introductory "basic" style game, but would have to forego the d20 lisc, in oreder to put CharGen into it, should I be able to get it finsihed and possibly printed.

i played EQ for a while too ... stopped when i got tired of the repetitive kill, sell, kill, sell, kill, sell, kill cycle. other than that, i really liked the game's ideas. real live DMs were what was missing. (a la NWN.) i'm really looking forward to this! :) who knows, it might just push me over that edge and finally get me to DM

Under its release schedule, they listed a city of Freeport accessory. I'm assuming this is different than Green Ronin's City of Freeport? Just what we need, more confusion. :)

1. It's about time.

2. This kinda scares me.

3. This is good for D&D.

I hope they concentrate more on the setting (and make it a little less cardboard than the online version) and less on the rules. If they try and make it play like EQ, it's gonna suck pretty hard.

At least SSS is making it, that's gotta be a good thing.

Yeah I was curious about this too. Though remember Freeport IS OGL. I mean both Dark Portal AND Paradigm use Freeport in their respective worlds.

It says it will be DnD compatable.

So we know it's using some aspect of the 3E rules.

I think but am not sure that the biggest difference between OGL and d20 is that with d20 you cannot include rules for character creation, leveling, and experience.

by going OGL they can use the DnD system and put in full character creation and development rules. Thus negating the need to buy the players handbook.

Good for us gamers; bad for WoTC.

If my take on the licenses is right.

This is going to be cool.
