Hopefully this means they won't have the trouble that other MMORPG's have had on launch day. "we'll hype the game up for alomost 2 years. Then when the servers crash on launch day, we can say we did not think the traffic would be so high." With both coming out same time, the traffic on both servers shoud be less.

Interesting; while I hope there's a 11/15 release, I'm not laying any bets, not with a Blizzard game.

I pretty much don't care at all about EQII, and haven't cared about any MMORPG since I played (and hated) a couple of MUSHes in the early nineties. But I played the WoW stress test for about a week, and was blown away by how much fun it was.

A friend let me try FFXI for a couple days, just ofr comparison's sake; I hated that, too :).

But if they don't do that, its breaking with a time honored tradition! ;)

I think Blizzard's keeping to its own time-honored tradition of delaying a game's release until it's polished mirror smooth, while us fans chew our arms off in anticipation.

I've been playing WoW since before the Beta, and I know many people at Blizzard and I'm certain the game will be out on the 15th.

Why? Many reasons.

  • They've been working on it for 7 years. They need to get it out, now, so it can start generating revenue.
  • It would otherwise be something like 6 months before it was "done" in the traditional sense. They can't wait that long.
  • Even though it's got bugs, and will certain require a Day One patch, it's still more polished than any MMO currently on the market.

They have to decide to ship the damn thing, even though it's not done. Given this, the 15th means they get the holiday rush.

I don't doubt that EQ2 will come out 11/15 but dang that would be a short beta in comparison to WoW. EQ2 started there beta what 2 months ago at the most, WoW's been going strong for 8 months or so. If EQ2 comes out 11/15 it likely wont be as done as it should be before release maybe even less so than star wars was.

According to playtesters on their MBs, EQ2 is pretty rough around the edges right now. I went to WoW's site and found out the same thing, it could use another 3-4 months of dev time, apparently. WoW doesn't even have sysreq's and neither are saying what the monthly fee will be yet. I find all of this quite odd and will definitely be watching from the sidelines come the middle of next month to see what happens.
