I do care about politics and I hope that Erik continues with his blog in all its apparently offensive glory.

From some of the posts here , it seems plain to me that you either object to any politics mixed in with gaming info or don't like the links Erik happened to post.

I'd say either way that's a big "tough nuggies". Course, I'm Canadian - not American living in a red state. I expect that goes some ways towards explaining my comfort level. Nuff said.

I am rarely surprised by the politics of 'creative types' who live and work in Seattle.

I mean, really.

Anyone whose politics are sufficiently to the right to be offended, should know enough not to be "blind-sided."

Dude, I am as politically right-leaning as they come, and I am not the least bit offended or surprised by EM's politics. One of my favorite gamers (from my own group even) is a card carrying member of the ACLU. Different strokes and all that. I do agree that a spoiler tag is always nice, however, for those who are easily provoked by political rhetoric from either side.

But, I'm not up on Blog-stuff, wouldn't it make sense to somewhat compartmentalize subjects?
"posted new stuff to Politics" for instance.
Granted, I'm not sure of the difference between a regular personal website and a "Blog".

If you care to check out Neverwinter Vault, its the busiest site (or at least was for 2 years +) on all of IGN.

It's run - as a full time job, by Errol "Maximus" Pinto. The site's bandwidth costs are in part underwritten by Atari and BioWare.

Errol is a Canadian from Montreal. If you know anything about Canadians in general and those from Quebec in particular, you would expect Montrealers to be very left on the political spectrum (as compared to our cousins in the USA, at least).

Anyways... my point: Errol runs a blog page as part of NWVault - labelled as such. The contents of the blog tend to be political and sometimes only peripherally connected to gaming (if at all).

To my knowledge - there have been no complaints at all, or surprises expressed at its content. It's a blog, after all. And he runs this off of IGN fer chris sakes!

The suggestion that politics needs to be "telegraphed" or warned about or compartmentalized in a blog is, in my view, a tad....uhmmm nutty?

If you buy a newspaper - you expect to get news. If you turn to the op ed section of the NY Times, you expect to get editorials and opinion columns.

Finding links to political rants and articles in a blog ought not to be a surprise. It is de rigeur.

It still baffles me that people think that the appropriate way to complain about politics on a well moderated baord like this is to post about politics.

Anyway, thanks for the link erik. I've been reading Chris Pramas' blog a bit (it covers games, politics and punk - as a political ex-punk gamer, I like that...), and I'll be checking out yours as well!
