Evangelist variant from Dragon #311

What's holding me back right now is (1) Turn Undead [because I like using undead as enemies]
Just one note here - the designers have stated on different occasions that the Challenge Rating of Undead doesn't take Turning into account - so you shouldn't worry about not having that ability for alternate clerics.

However, it's good to have some kind of cleric when facing undead for all the other various things they can inflict on a party... Stat Drain, Disease, Negative Levels, etc... :]

At one point there was an addendum/clarification for the Evangalist somewhere. Either here or on Paizo's website.
Really? That would be very cool to see :). I ran a search on Paizo's site but only got one result (an unanswered post not relating to the balance issues at hand here). Any idea on what the addendum/clarification said?

I don't know if this is what you're thinking of, but it's an old thread in which I discussed--well, a lot of this same issue. :)

Looking back on it, it seems my ideas have changed since I first thought about this topic. I think I'm a little less sanguine about the evangelist now than I was when I responded to that thread. But who knows, maybe I was right then, and I'm just being overly cautious now... ;)

Cheers for that link - it made for an interesting and enlightening read. Good to see some of the inner workings of the class dissected in that thread. You know, the fact that it seems difficult to come down one one side of the balanced/unbalanced discussion or the other regarding this class is probably a good sign that the balance is OK, given decent DM oversight. It's not clearly one or the other and it seems to me that the class is sitting neatly on the balance knife-edge. Anyway, I'll have to get some playing done with it and see how it pans out - much better than theory at the end of the day :).

The only way I see the evangelist overpowered is if you let clerics choose the no devotion route. Then they are free to choose domains sich as travel, luck, time, fate, orc, and Animal.

Great spells and an animal companion, reroll one roll per day, uncanny dodge, the true strike-power attack combo, freedom of movement, smite, and improved initiative. All at the cost of turn undead and heavy armor prof.

Edit: Animal domain is 3.0, so I'd replace that with something else. Healing maybe.
