*sigh* seriously, sorry for the offence...

however...in my 'logical' *though twisted* reasoning...

if it's a long sword...and it's made Smaller...or 'Shorter'...

it becomes no longer a Long sword...but a Shorter sword...

since people won't go around saying "can i buy your shorter sword", they say Short sword

*once again, i must stress at my twisted logic*

and though it's slashing...the idea is that since a sword is too Short...it's only effective for thrusting ie. piercing...while the longsword, is rather unweildy for pure thrusts...

Deep vs. Wide wounds...

Then explain the sickle, the handaxe, the kukri, the trident, the rapier, the halfspear.

A halfling with a halfling-sized Small longsword uses it in the same way that a human uses a Medium longsword - Slashing.

An ogre with an ogre-sized Medium shortsword uses it in the same way that a human uses a Small shortsword - Piercing.

If a human picks up a halfling longsword, it's designed for slashing. As is a halfling scimitar, which would be a 1d4, 18-20 x2, Martial Slashing weapon.

well, to be honest, thats bloody good logic, and i admit sincere defeat....

yet that raises the question whether you could ismply opt that a short sword for a halfling is slashing rather than piercing, whilst a dagger is piercing...for a tiny creature...a dagger can be slashing...

or is that jst pointless rambling?

Well, I would say that if you give a human's dagger to a grig, while it's the same size relative to them as a longsword is to a human, it's still designed for stabbing. It still does Piercing damage, it can't be made Vorpal, etc.

But there's no real reason they can't use Tiny longswords that are slashing weapons.

good point...but how would you adhere costs? i know the general damage rules *e.g. grig sized dagger equal 1 damage + str mod*...i think...

but how would you give say a small creature a small longsword? what cost? less or more since it's such an uncommon weapon?

actually, i looked it up...

uses normal scimitars, suffers a -4 penalty, has weapon focus/specialization...

but the fool doesn't have improved critical!!!

i mean...18-20/x2 compared to 15-20/x2!!!!!!!!!

Despite being a posterboy for munchkins, Drizzt actually is a rather weak character for his level if you crunch the numbers.
If you consider the whole group of Drizzt, it is basically a TPK waiting to happen in a standard D&D game. No spellcaster, no healer.
