Are 18 pre-racials really all that common? No one in my groups uses one, although the Wizard was actually considering it (and they're one of the few classes I think that can easily pull it off). I've always been fond of the double 16, or the 16/14/14 arrays. I do wish there was a way to do a 16/16/14 though...that would be nice.

18s pre are pretty rare, but 17s I've actually seen as not that rare. And yeah, I'd love to be able to have a couple 14s after putting points into the top two.

If I play a race/class combo that doesn't bump my primary stat (eladrin fighter, for example) ill put a 17 in it. Can't really stomach starting with a 16 sometimes.

They're not too common in my groups, but every party tends to have at least one. I've seen several wizards with a 20 primary - boosts ac for them too, and the secondary stat just isn't that important (we play heroic tier). We've got an artificer who's played by a player that just didn't feel like bothering with mechanical details, so he just took a 20 by default (and two feats to be able to use a single drow long knife for all powers whether implement, melee weapon and melee ranged attacks).

Taking a 19 is more common - in fact, that's the most common starting score overall, probably taken by more than half of the players. There have been a few characters that had a non-aligned primary stat, but over all, it's very rare.
