Also... be warned... Van Helsing was BAD.

My wife and I saw Van Helsing last night too! I didn't think it was that bad...but then again, I had read some scathing reviews, so I wasn't expecting much. I'm also a big fan of some really bad B movies, so perhaps I'm not the best critic here.

The problems I had (yesterday) are the same problems everyoen else has. Though this was the same problem as last year. Honestly, there was nothing I got locked out of. It just takes some patience. Afterall, there are lots of games to choose from and the chances of you getting what you want - even after all the hassle - are still pretty good, really.

Well, from 3:00 until 5:00 EST, that certainly wasn't the case. If you could get off from the login page, you were lucky. When I logged in again at night (around 8:00), there was still a slow-down and a few errors, but I was able to register (sure, it took me an hour since I had to search for new events and everything was so slow, but still....).

Yeah, there are a lot of games to choose from. I admit, I'm a little sore that I had taken hours out of my day only to be shut out of events that I had been wanting. My gaming schedule is still great, and I'm looking forward to the festivities. Besides, I had a lot of funny spending my time posting here on Enworld.

I DO think that GenCon LLC needs to iron out these problems once and for all, though.

What we're doin'

As Queen Doppelpoppolis said, we're doing mostly seminars (plus the true dungeon and one of the midnight games FFG is running), under the assumption that we'll be able to find people to run or play pretty much anything our hearts desire at the Con...

To the degree that one can over the messageboards, we know you guys, so it would be nice if there was a place where in ENworld folks could congregate, organize, etc.

As for Van Helsing, there was nothign technically WRONG with it...it just failed to do what it could have with all the money they spent and the cast they had... it just underwhelmed. We had a good time watching it, though...but mostly because of its deficiencies.

I got everything I wanted but one event. But I think it's a good idea to go to gencon once and check it out before I sign up for tourneys anyway. Jesterpoet, which Exalted are you doing? Maybe we're in the same group.

you gotta admit that the movie was atleast saved because of Hugh Jackman... I think that guy could play anything... Yes, even the shark from Jaws.

I think if you put the movie into it's context, it was okay... context meaning if the movie were made in the 50's... because the movie was full of olden day dramatics

Actually, there will be a place to meet up. Last year we used the ENPublishing/ENnies booth, and this year the ENnies will have it's own promotional booth (I'm not sure on the details on that yet, we're hammering things out among the ENnies staff & judges). I'm sure that either one will be swarming with ENWorld regulars, looking for games and a place to hang out. Also, make sure you attend the ENnie Awards on Friday night. Last year a large group of us met up before the awards, and went out afterwards and had a great time. So if you congregate at any of the ENWorld related places, you'll be sure to bump into many of your fellow EN-Heads.

I'm mad because all of the Game of Thrones games had gone when I finally managed to get on myself. Friends of mine had scored event tickets for myself and my wife in other events, but I waffled on GoT for about 2 seconds and by then, zffft.

Game of Thrones was one of the events I was able to get into. That, and a Black Company demo. Sorry you couldn't get in.

Right now there are 2 Game of Thrones spots available (I'm typing this as 12 noon Eastern Time on Sunday), both on Thusday 8/19, event codes RPG01015 and RPG01016. I'd sign up for one of them, but I've got another game going at the same time. Hope someone grabs them before they disappear.
