Evil vs Good: D&D Wargaming

"Of course, of course" the Hunter replies to the Firekings plottings "the Grove is always open to my Brother if he desires to bring his hoard to it.

Hmmm though I suspect that your mountain would be easier to defend, t'is true that with the right enscorclement and awakenings the Forest is as good as a fortress especially with your own forces and mine combined.

The Pack is every ready to defend its territory and I know that the Ghost is ready to join us. I will send the ravens to him, to summon him to our side

But what of our offensive? Is it wise to sit back and wait for this Wizard and his army to come? Or should we send forth a Hunt to meet it before it tramples upon our own domain?

You say that his army is a common one, phalanxes and pikes must remain tightly packed - and that is where they will fall, for their density will become their burden and we shall tear them all apart.

The Wizard and his scorcerers are our only threat, and little threat shall they be!

Brother I can taste our victory upon my lips!"

The FireKing frowns for a moment. "Bah, first I am too rash and then I am too cautious, That wizard must have shook me up more than I thought."

"You are right Druid, we must strike. The only true defense Is to leave your enemy as nothing but a broken corpse. But I am obviously too upset right now to properly plan. I need to think and to rest."
His stomach growls
"And I need to eat :) "

The Dragon arrives soon after at his lair, stopping only to grab a couple of peasants from a nearby village for dinner. After eating and resting on his hoard he seems much more refreshed and his usual cunning self.

"I believe we should strike. I don't know everything about this wizard or the cities defenses but in war one must take gambles."

"As for the army" The FireKing grins just thinking about them. "They are nothing, not even a threat. Pikes and phalanxes are useless against flying creatures and a magic missile can't reach as far as an arrow. We may not even need our whole army to destroy these fools."

With that The FireKing outlines his plan. (The rest of my post is ooc to better relay the tactics involved)

You open the mirror into your lands and summon all your men through to my mountain.

We and our combined forces rest and prepare for tomorrow. Focus on offensive spells, buffs for yourself (You need them more than I do), and healing spells (we'll both probably need some by the end), Possibly some summon spells as well. Air elementals would fit into the plan well and we should have plenty of time to prepare. Also make sure you have at least one shapeshifting spell to use on me and a way to dispel it.

On day two, we act. I'll start by using the mirror to watch the city, paying special attention to the sorcerors and the army, as well as the wizard. I'll also show my watchers how to use the mirror and make sure they are familiar with the city.

Late in the day, after the soldiers are tired from training and the sorcerors have used up their spells, probably around dusk, we begin the attack.

First buff yourself up and cast elemental swarm. Then make me smaller to fit through the mirror.

We start by opening the mirror on a mountain by the city. Preferably near the city but out of sight. By near I mean a little over a thousand feet, just out of arrow range. You, me, your pixies, and my mephits will go through this gate. You dispel the shape on me and get on my back.

We take flight and head for the city. We will head for the gatherings of sorcerors. We will rain magic and arrows upon the sorcerors, staying just out of magic missile range. About 120 feet up, maybe a little more to be on the safe side. After we have destroyed the sorcerors we will move on to the army. Lowering our hight to make use of my breath weapon and your closer ranged spells. We will destroy them as well.

While we are doing this the previously mentioned Watchers will open a new gate at ground level in a courtyard or road in the middle of the city. Since it takes ten minutes to refocus the mirror we should have plenty of time to get started before this new gate opens. Our combined horde will rush through this opening to begin fighting. The airial forces will move to support them.

The gate in the city will remain open. It will be defended by half of my kobalds. 50 on one side, 50 on the other. As well as any forces you wish to appoint to that task. If the gate is assaulted all units will move to support it if able.

If the wizard ever leaves his tower all units will move to attack him. I will dive towards him and attempt to start a grapple. If I don't succeed I will move back to use a breath weapon and all the mephits and pixies will pepper him with arrows. 95 arrows a round will wear down any magical protection. If he comes with guards I will use my breath weapon on the guards first.

If the wizard doesn't leave the tower we will leave him for last. Then try and destroy the tower using magic.

If, for some strange reason, we are outmached we will fly up as high as possible and move away. Even if they do have flying units they will be outmached with no support. All ground units will retreat to the gate and go through. The gate will close as soon as a serious threat approaches it, regardless of our men on the other side.

When we win we will loot the town as thoroughly as possible. Then we will desecrate it as thoroughly as possible. We will use the mirror send mangled corpses from the army to nearby cities, showing what happens to those that oppose us. If you can cast any spells that will cause havok on the corpse it will be all the better. We're keeping the wizard's corpse as our first trophy of the war.

Edit: Two final notes. If we are attacked by archers all units will move to attack the archers. I will use my breath weapon as much as possible on them.
I will attempt to shield the druid with my body at all times. I have way higher AC and a bit more hit points. I also don't need to concentrate on spells.

"So how does that sound Druid? If you can think of a better way to use your troops and magic please say so. My knowledge of your full capabilities is regrettably limited."

ooc: how much of the conversation did he hear. I hope you realized that he would stop talking as soon as he noticed the scry.

And how does this wizard keep getting through my +16 will save? His spells must have an insane DC.

Insane DC indeed. You have no idea.

They overheard you while mentioning "First buff yourself up and cast elemental swarm. Then make me smaller to fit through the mirror." I assume that at least a little information would get through before you catch yourself.

Kael is in the temple, overseeing the reanimation of the latest additions to the militia when the call comes.

"Yes my lord, I obey." he answers silently.

After a few moments of thought he begins issuing orders, preparing the army to march, ordering his leutenants to assemble the companies at the foot of the mountain.

I now need to know EXACTLY where you are located. I have drawn up a floor plan for your lair according to the sample given in the draconomicon.

Code:

Dots are stone, O is a hole, and W is your Scrying Pool. # is empty floorspace. Each character is a 5 foot square. If this lair is NOT acceptable, I need to know now, and need to know fast. It's going to be a battleground in moments. You'll barely have time to tell the druid you've been scried.

The hole leads straight downwards for one hundred and fifty feet, to the lower level.

I'm going to assume lots of kobold traps on the upper level, since you LIVE on the lower level, and it'd be a PAIN IN THE ARSE to have to keep tripping the traps and resetting them.

On the upper level, the exit to the mountainside is left (as should be evident). The right is what is called a "False Chamber". Where you might meet people without them seeing your hoard. The 150 foot drop is ominous, and most would probably rather ignore it, or think it's a "bottomless pit".

Pick either the lower left, or lower right chamber for sleeping. The other one is for storage... not gold storage, since gold is your bed, but any other items not comfortable to sleep on. Probably also a good place to store spare meat.

I've numbered and lettered the map. Tell me where you are, where the druid is, and where you think the kobold traps should go.

"Enough!" the Hunter growls as he moves to counter the scrying magic being used against the Dragons lair "so the Wizard continues to observe us, I should have suspected as much! We have become intemperate in these days of peace my brother, we grow careless.

Let it not happen again! We do not know what was heard or whether he watches still, it matters not. He shall fall, but we must take care to conceal our future meetings, lest we be undone by our own pride.

Your Lair though is compromised, we must seek elsewhere and find somewhere to defeat that mongrels prying!"

ooc: crap, that gave away two very vital peices of information.

The following was posted so you could quote it directly on to the good boards. But please check to make sure I didn't do anything wrong just in case.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dragon suddenly stops talking and looks suspiciously around him. When he spots the scying sensor he looks really pissed off. Smoke starts coming out of his nostrils and his muscles tense.

"You :) :) :) :) , :) :) :) :) , :) :) :) :) , :) :) :) :) ing mage. When I get my hands on you I am going to make you suffer for all time. I'm going to cut off your hands and tongue and roast you alive, healing you just enough to ensure you stay conscious the whole time. I'm going to hunt down your family, your friends, everyone you ever met and slaughter them while you stand by watching, helpless. Then I'm going to raise their corpses to torture you themselves, while their spirits are bound and forced to watch. I'm going to give you to my troops to be eaten alive, regenerating you afterwards so it can happen again and again and again. I'm going to burn out your eyes and replace them with festering maggots. I'm going to defile your body and soul in ways you can't even begin to imagine. Then I'm going to get serious.

He continues like this for the whole duration of the spell. Causing your blood to run like ice. Eventually it ends but you know your going to have nightmares of that dragon for years to come.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay that was disturbing just to write but I think it accurately displays how my character is feeling right about now.

By the way. I was basically making an intimidate check through the whole thing (+14) if he isn't effected you can erase the last paagraph. A sense motive check will show that I am very serious, and very pissed.
