Evoker (Prohibited school Divination) goes Divine Oracle?

Thanks for all the input. It has given me some fuel for brain consumption :)

Many of your arguments are built upon the fact that the named Evoker can not cast divination spells as arcane user. The fact that the FAQ specially states that scrolls written by a wizard gone divine oracle can not be read by other arcane users does obviously not impress you.

Some has mentioned this Prc is irrational and pointless for that Evoker. Of course that could be the case, but I personally don't think so. If a text in divine oracle description says that most divine oracles are extremely adapted in divination spells, it does not mean that all are. This Evoker becomes a really poor oracle but that is the fun part of it.

Still, let us agree upon this until FAQ somewhere highlights this beyond shadow of the doubt.

So this Evoker takes 1 level of cleric to Mystra, chooses Magic domain which allows him to read all arcane scrolls (including divination arcane spells) and then ventures into the path of divine oracle at which time he gains access to all the domain spells and can write them down on scrolls for future use. I hope this will satisfy even the stricter GMs.

Thanks

That's very, very true.

However, the text says "Whatever their other classes, all divine oracles share a particular devotion to the Divination school of magic, having mastered all available means to catch glimpses of the future."

So if it says they all are, what does that mean? :)

Well, they can't, unless they are of the correct form of magic (arcane) and have the spell on their lists.

What you say is true for Augury, Divination, and Commune. But any wizard or sorcerer could use a scroll of Identify, Scrying, Greater Scrying, Foresight, Discern Location, or Legend Lore scribed by an Arcane Divine Oracle. Any bard could use a scroll of Scrying, Greater Scrying, or Legend Lore.

To be honest, as a DM, I wouldn't let you add the Divination spells to your books. "Wizards can add new spells to their spellbooks through several methods. If a wizard has chosen to specialise in a school of magic, she can only learn spells from schools she can cast."

Specialisation

I was under the impression that to become an Evoker, you'd have to take one of the following choices of oppositional schools (PHB p54):

* Conjuration
* Transmuration
* any 2 of Abjuration, Enchantment & Illusion
* any 3

It seems that this character has bigger problems than trying to get benefits from taking the Divine Oracle PrC.

I'm assuming Divination, Necromancy, and Enchantment.

Although it might be Divination, Necromancy, and Illusion, but I'm guessing Enchantment.
