Exeunt gnomes: bang or whimper?

Yes. Bulette yum-cha.

they're not gone. Really, now, this has been known for quite some time.
Indeed, but some campaign settings have gnome-only civilisations (such as FR's lantan), which may seem a little incongruous if they're relegated out of the PHB.

This is comedy genius.

What a perfect Halfling curse.

They will remain tricksters/tinkers in my campaign world just as my halflings will always be hobbits. With the changes in fluff, I don't really care which direction WoTC goes, I know it's far different than mine.

I absolutely cannot understand all the gnome hate.... oh, wait, yes I can, and its all Dragonlance's fault. After reading my 1st and 2nd edition PHBs and MMs, no where is it mentioned that gnomes are sadistic, half wits with gears in their skulls. I blame Weis and Hickman! Wait a minute, didn't they invent the kender too... Yep, DEFINITELY their fault!

Bring back the gnome - get rid of Dragonlance.....

The tinker gnomes were more of Jeff Grubb's invention.

Bring back the gnome - get rid of Dragonlance.....

*sigh*

Might I recommend Dark Sun?

Sneaky sagacious gnomes > Tinker Gnomes.

Gnome. Gnosis. Knowledge. Sneaky little burrowers who know all your secrets and sell them to the highest bidder. Excellent gnome archetype.

I like them as wily fey, too.

But the race doesn't need to be a joke race. Which, actually, Dragonlance has a problem with (gully dwarves, kender...)

Whimper for me. Not really fusssed about their disappearance. I've always preferred to play halflings anyway.

Curiously, my halflings always seem to end up just on the right side of psychotic, but still....
