Exeunt gnomes: bang or whimper?

Old style halflings disappeared? Where did they go? I assumed they stayed right where they were and those fit halflings we saw were just the ones that could be coaxed off the sofa and away from their smokeweed long enough to kill some beasties and make some loot. Its amazing what just a little exercise can do.

The never occupied a very good niche anyway, sort of like a halfling but sort of like a dwarf too. Oh and they make cool tech stuff, and they like gems and they play tricks on people. Um, good riddance- the last gnome I saw played in one of my games was years ago- a gnome wizard. And for those who absolutely cannot do without they are still viable as a race from the MM (along with the orc the goblin and the kobold!) :)

And if we went by my campaign, instead, there would be no half-elf, no half-orc and even the elf itself would be on the bubble, as it's gotten a total of one time at bat.

Frankly, I think my PHB would be a lot cooler than one without the gnome.

I think that your campaign differs considerably from the majority of D&D games that people run; ENworld is the first (and more or less the only) place I've seen where there are significant numbers of people who actually like gnomes. :)

And that's the point: Your experience, my experience, the other guy's experience, so what? To declare "I think X should be removed from the game, because my campaign in Schenectady has never used X" is a ridiculous notion on the face of it, unless your campaign includes tens of thousands of players or more.

Now, if the RPGA collects information about what races and classes are being played in official games (and they may well be doing so), then that would be useful information.

But just because I play with right-thinking players who eschew elves doesn't mean WotC should drop elves from the PHB. Nor does it mean that gnomes should be dropped because of someone else's campaign.
