Exotic Mount and crazy ideas....

Someone mentioned living spells in this thread, which of course got me to break out my Eberron books to read up on them again, which then got me thinking (often dangerous) and had me turn to Arms and Equipment Guide.
So, Amulet of Ooze Riding (Arms & Equip p.85) + Living Spell (Eberron Campaign Setting p.293) = Awesome, yes?

Lets say I was an Arcane caster with a low enough Wisdom score to think creating a Living Spell was a good idea. How might a PC experiement to make something like this happen? I'd more likely use this for a villian NPC, but I still want to create a semi-reasonable mechanic to explain the occurance. Obviously this is in the realm of "Talk with your DM" but if you were my DM, what sort of conversation might we be able to have?

You: I am thinking about creating a Living Spell, how do you feel about it?

Me: Stop being a wiseass "role-playing" your 5 wisdom. It's 3d6 in order, Period.

You: Have you heard of the Amulet of Ooze Riding?

Me: I like my pizza warm and my soda cold. See what you can do about that next session and you never know...

You: <sob>

Me: [walks away] [sotto voce] "Living Spell" <snicker>

I'm confused. If you have the amulet of ooze riding doesn't that mean all you have to do is track down a living spell? Making them yourself is kinda complicated.

Yes, you're absolutely right.

However finding a Living Spell in the world requires my DM to introduce it into the campaign and determine which spell get's templated. Discovering a mechanically sound way to custom-create one myself still requires DM approval, but is less DM dependant.

It's pretty much me saying "I wanna do it myself!"

...And kitcik, I think I'd have fun if you were my DM. I promise only to drive you crazy some of the time.

Well then you have a problem, most living spells occur naturally only on eberron. If it's within your power to get a hold of a wish effect you can use that to conjure one.

Theoretically any place that sees a concentration of random magic could spawn living spells, but again there's no hard fast way to make them, short of running a magic school and ignoring disposal regs.

You want to move fast? A living Cloud Trapeze spell, from OA, would make a billowy bed of fog that you could sit on. Just make sure it stays willing to be your mount. But how do you care for a living spell? Do they eat? Poop? Mate? Hmmm...

Any chance you'll make it to either ConnCon or Gen Con? I am definitely going to the former, thinking about the latter.
Unfortunately nope. When I was growing up in New York, I went to occasional conventions.

Living in Ohio, married and with a kid on the way, the time for conventions are behind me.

Until my soon-to-be-born son is old enough to be the right kind of Geek, and then we can go together.
