Exotic Weapon - Greatscythe

I'm not arguing that this feat would be awesome for a Necromancer making use of ghouls, in fact, that's a good strategy. Notice, however, that it requires a billion feats and at least Fighter level four. Not a good feat for a pure Necromancer, even something like a Dread Necromancer. It interrupts precious spellcasting advancement to take a four level dip into Fighter, but if a Wizard or Necromancer is willing to do that, it works.

And yes, it would be insanely cool, especially if you Animated them directly afterwards. :]

Ahh!! Silly me, I meant to drop the Weapon Spec prereq for...

Damn, I forgot.

Mmmm kay, here's Greatscythe v2.0...
___________________________________
Name - Greatscythe
Weapon Type - 2-Handed Exotic Weapon
Damage - 2d6
Critical - 20/x4
Damage Type - P or S
Cost - 70 gp
Weapon Size - Large Object
Weight - 17 lbs
Hardness/Hit Points - 5/15
Special Qualities - Trip, Shared Focus (scythe), Requires Str 13 To Wield
___________________________________
Most of it stays the same, but I made a few minor tweaks. Damage has been readjusted to make this weapon worth the feat, 13 Str is required to be proficient (similar to the Bastard Sword; this is to address the issue of the weapon being ungainly or difficult to wield - ya gotta be able to swing this thing), and weight has been raised a bit (to show that it is a bit longer and thicker than the scythe, with a much more pronounced blade). The heaviness also reinforces the Str 13 prerequisite for the feat. You have to be at least CAPABLE of melee combat to be able to use this thing.

So, last opinions? Weight unreasonable? Price need tweaking? I'm almost ready to implement this thing.

The weight does seem a tad high. The normal scythe weighs in at 10 pounds. Which is also too heavy. D&D weapon weights have ALWAYS been too heavy though... I know the argument that the weight is suppose to include the encumbrance. But it is listed as WEIGHT. Which means how much an object weighs, not how easy it is to move about... sorry, this has always bugged the heck out of me...

Ooh, I forgot that the scythe weighed 10 pounds, I thought it weighed 12... I never bothered with the "realisticness" of weight too much. I go with what the book says, and when making new equipment, I go with what seems right. You can argue about the physics of the game all you want, but I find that it causes less headaches if you just assume that it works in the World of D&D. New adjustment -

There, that seems a bit better. Heavy, yes (weight of Orc Double Axe), and the high Str is required to be able to control the heavy momentum from each swing.

Is it not possible for a weaponsmith to make a scythe type weapon taht was more useful in combat, maybe spread the weight out a bit, add a coutner weight to the other end making it easier to use as a true combat weapon? while the original sythe may not make for a good weapon, perhaps it coudl be modified into one relatively easy. Maybe using that logic it would make more sense as a weapon of choice for some people.
