[Exp.Psionics] New issue of Dragon reveals info. (Now corrected by Bruce C.)

Yea, with the latest news from Dragon, and the new rules for Focus, psionics appears to be really shaping up.

I just hope Psionic Combat works now. Or better yet, has been eliminated altogether.

Yea, but I don't have my mag handy. I remember one of them did an extra 1d6 damage for every extra PP invested in it.

One power had three different ways you could augment it. You spent the extra points, then selected how you wanted to augment the power. As long as you didn't hit your PP limit, you could select multiple augmentations.

From the sounds of it, the powers themselves are much more versatile.

There are a couple example powers in the article.

Burrowing Bonds
Metacreative
Shaper 4th

You create a shaft of crystal that can entwine a Medium creature and does 3d6 damage squeezing and piercing and an additional 1d6 damage per round there after.

Augmentations:
+2 power points to increase the save DC by +1
+2 power points to increase the size catagory by one
+2 power points to increase the per round damage by +1d6

Crystalstorm
Metacreative [Creation]
Psion/ Wilder 3rd

Creates a ray of crystal shards that do 3d4 slashing damage and requires a Fortitude save or suffer 1d4 Constitution damage due to blood loss.

Augmentation:
+2 power points to enhance the damage by +1d4 and Constitution damage by 1d4 (if the Fortitude save fails).

This sounds like excellent news, and very flavourful :)

Which issue of Dragon is this? (They seem to take ages to reach the UK nowadays)

Hopefully they will redesign the displays. Okay if you can "sense" the powers mentally (you just know it's there) but things like emitting odors is so... goofy.
Personally, the one that always blew my mind was the snot (don't remember what the right term for it is, it's always been referred to as "snot" in my group). What would possess Bruce to decide that a quick "snot-wash" was a cool display?

Still not as bad as a rainbow shooting from your crotch.....

There's a lot of improvements to the psionics system, no more having to rely on If Thoughts Could Kill and Mindscapes just to make psionics more playable.

Displays: I thought it was always apparent even in the 3.0 PsiHB, that you have displays be whatever you wanted them to be like. I would have displays built individually on whatever the characters were like.

As for the goth comment, the previous poster doesn't even know what a goth looks like...
