Expedition to Castle Ravenloft

the DM can always give undead their energy draining abilities back, for the small price of bumping up the CR by +1 or +2. :)

Yep, that is what I did with Strahd. He is too special to be a "normal vampire". The players never found out though. They died. The Red Dragons killed them. Go figure.

I'm going to buy this. Its Strahd Von Zarovich. I'm a fanboy. What can I say?

Besides, this has made me decide to run the original I 6 for my C&C Holloween game. Going to be sweet!

I just hope it's not watered down and generic'ized to the point of not reflecting the actual domain of Barovia in Ravenloft. Hopefully they'll actually give a brief discussion of the mists etc, ways to incorporate the demiplane into various worlds, ways to strip it of its demiplane status and just use it as generic creepy place X, etc.

I worry that it'll try to model itself after just the 1e adventure to the ignorance of the massive detailing it got as part of a setting in 2e. Hopefully I'm proven wrong.
To quote MerricB, above: "I really hope you are disappointed". ;) I, for one, want to see nothing about the "domain of Barovia in Ravenloft". AFAIC, Ravenloft is a castle, not a demiplane nor a campaign setting.

The ToC has my interest certainly.

And yes, I suppose I'm still holding out a silly hope of some offhand reference to Inajiira. *chuckle*
I cannot imagine you will be happy with this product. I'd buy up the White Wolf stuff before it leaves store shelves forever.

Put me in the camp of "I hope it is not set in the demiplane of dread". I want a Ravenloft that plugs into a "regular" game world.

Ditto.

Make me another ditto. While the setting had it uses, I usually just cherry picked it and used the bits as a little pockets of weirdness found in an otherwise normal campaign setting.

I loved the original module, like many others, it was one of my first really cool gaming experiences. My first DM ran us through it as a sort of climax to our campaign, and he let it be known that he would not fudge it. Talk about playing on edge.

When they puffed it up to a full setting, it was just so obvious that they were trying to make up ground that TSR had lost to WW's Vampire. And such a hodgepodge of "gothic" elements was too much of a stretch for me to enjoy.

Masque of the Red Death was kind of neat though.

I'd prefer that it at least acknowledged the campaign setting. There is a wealth of old material in there and they would be doing a disservice to the gamers and, I think, themselves, if they were to ignore the Demiplane of Dread, especially since the page count is large enough to accommodate a short primer on the setting.

Anyway, didn't they just reprint one of the old Ravenloft novels? I'd think it strange if they did that and then deliberately ignored the setting in a reimagining of its most iconic adventure.

It's a must buy for me.
When I get to run it is another matter. I may run this as a break from my AoW campaign if it suits everyone in my group. Looking forward to the book.
