Last night we had our first PC deaths in our campaign. The culprit was a mirror of opposition. It was obviously a very evenly matched fight, and our 2 4th-level party members bit the dust. The 3 5th-level and our 2nd-level henchman survived...barely.
It was a weird fight. We had a LOT of bad rolls mixed in with a few spectactular criticals. Our campaign has house rules that are a variant of action points and special action cards, and those were our only advantages over our foes. There wasn't much magic, since we were at the end of a long dugeon delve, and most of us had slight damage at the start.
Overall, it was a lot of fun, but it was also a very hard and long battle. The deaths were from the weakest characters (who were weaker because of some unusual character choices -- one was a half-orc barbarian/sorcerer, and the other was a scout with Con as a dump stat), but it was a close thing. Has anybody else had better or worse luck with this evil magic item?
