Expert tactician

Micheal, I never said those wizards in my little scenerio were mirror images, I meerly asked how AoO would work in that situation. Why can't two people plan to act at the exact same time? What about two archers who need to hit seperate targets at the same time in combat?

A couple points:

Things can not happen simultaneously under the D&D rules, technically. Everything has an order. I hate this facet of the rules myself, but it is the way things are done. Does it make sense in the real world? Not entirely. But losing that 'reality' was just one cost of having clear rules.

Even if you ignore the rules and look at the 'real world' perspective, the rogue should (in some interpretations) get an AoO on each wizard (if they are not mirror images) because spellcasting is not instantaneous (in the minds of most people). Each wizard will be casting for a few seconds, so there is time for the rogue to take a slap and a tickle at each one.

If you try to apply real world logic to mirror image, the spell falls apart. These images should be moving through objects or other foes unless they are controlled by the caster. If they are controlled by the caster, that would obviously take a lot of focus. Further, the idea that a viewer can not figure out which is the image and which is the real caster after hitting a target is a bit odd in real application. Focus on the written game mechanics and ignore the real world implications or you'll go mad. Mad I say!

Go mad? Been there and done that. I do see your point and grudgingly accept about there having to be an order. It's just hard not to look at a game like this in a logical real world sense.

The mechanics of combat requires each one take his turn in order, thus no simultaneous actions. However, each round of combat is taking place in 6 seconds all at the same time. After the round is over, we can imagine all the action taking place in that quick timeframe. Also, check out the Simultaneous Activity section in the DMG, page 24, for more on this subject.

Darklone, could you do me a favor and post the exact text on how it reads for 3.5E? I don't have that book and I would really appriciate it.

I just want to chime in here... I'd only allow one aoo against the wizard with mirror images, but you'd get one on each wizard if multiple wizards provoked 'em, even in rapid (nearly simultaneous) succession.

Also, I was very surprised not to see Expert Tactician in Complete Warrior.

Actually, it didn´t change a lot if I recall correctly (I helped with the updates... check on the Kenzer homepage www.kenzerco.com. Edit: Checked it, it didn´t change). Combat Reflexes and BAB +2 as prerequisites, one extra melee attack (per round) if you´re next to someone who lost his Dex bonus to AC...
