Explain Harry Potter to me

Possible spoiler (highlight to read)

I did not read any of the books, but I am a fan of the movies. Before I went to watch the 4th movie, I was well aware that a character was going to die. My friend who read the book awhile ago told me, but did not tell me who the character was (thankfully). All she said was, "It's a main character". So being my curious self, I rattled off a few names who I thought might die, and she said "No" to all of them. So I go see the movie, and when I realize who is about to die, I think to myself, "But this is not a main character." Then I got to thinking... I bet in the book, this character IS a main character, but in the movies, they don't really have a main roll IMHO. So this is probably one example of how the books is a lot different than the movie.

Of course, at the rate things are going, there's going to be a bunch of thirty-something actors trying to play teenagers for the last book... some are already twenty-somethings trying to play 14-year-olds after all!
Well, that would explain the panty-flashing on almost all teen angst shows...

...and the girl's locker room scenes.
