I don't use exploding dice, but I like it for a straight variant for magical weapons. One of the things I never like is magical weapons dealing minimum damage greater than 1, i.e. a Longsword +2 RAW does a minimum of 3 per hit. By "upping" the damage dice from d8 to d12, the minimum is still 1 and the maximum is fairly close to the same (12 instead of 10), with the same average damage (6.5).
Anyway, just a idea for MechaPilot to consider...
