Extended Rest and Dailies

Little confused here. You get your daily powers back after an extended rest (6 hours). However, since they are daily, you can't use them until the next day. Is this right?

So let's say the party starts out refreshed at 8AM... They get into an encounter at 9AM and use their dailies. They then want to refresh them. So they rest from 9AM to 3PM. They get them back, but still can't use them, right? Or can they? I assume no... Or is that they don't refresh until the next day ANd after an extended rest (ie both criteria must be met)? At what point do they refresh?

At what point CAN they use use them? As soon as the clock hits 12AM midnight? Or is it 24 hours after they used them, so in this case, 9AM the next day?

An extended rest occurs only once per day. So if your day has 24 hours, you only gain the daily abilities once every 24 hours. So in a 24 hour day world, if you start adventuring at 06:00 your extended rest occurred (maybe off-screen) before that time. Let's say 00:00 to 6:00. You adventure until 13:00 and decide to take an extended rest. Your dailies do not replenish because your day (24 hours) has not ended.

It is actually a DM's call on which way to do it. However, you can only take ONE extended rest per day. So if you "rested" from 00:00 to 06:00 then the party cannot take an extended rest until after 23:59, likewise they use their daily powers more than once during that timeframe as well.

It doesn't matter which way it is decided as long as it remains the same. So if Dm states 00:00 is start of new day, then that's the way it is, if it is 18 hours must pass between end of one and beginning of another extended rest (assuming 24 hours day still) then that's the way it is.

I believe you have this backwards.

An extended rest is akin to “camping” and lasts 6 hours. After an extended rest, you’re fully healed, you have a full compliment of healing surges, you have your daily powers back, and you reset your action points to 1.

Dailies replenish after a extended rest, not according to a clock.

If the quick rules are direct interpretations of the final rules, then if you adventure from 06:00 to 13:00 and then extended rest until 19:00, you regain your dailies. If it is the case that you can only extended rest once per day, you would them be out your extended rest until 13:00 the next day.

But you can only take one extended rest a day. You can rest for multiple six-hour periods if you want, but only one per day counts as a "true" extended rest, and restores your abilities.

From what I've seen (and what I personally prefer) you only get your extended rest once per day, that was a design principle in calling your daily powers daily in the first place. This also keeps your party from nova mode as they know they can also only get their healing surges back once per day. If you adventure from say 0900 hrs. to 0930 and decide to take a 6 hour rest and get your days worth of powers back that you "wasted" in half an hour...you had better be prepared to defend yourself untill 0930 the next morning or latter because thats when you have another chance at an extended rest....this will take away the six hour rest after 0930 to 1530...adventure to 1545 fighting 3 encounters and going to sleep again.....other threads on this board have had this arguement to a lot of "peeing in the wind" conclusions. <I like the once a day side because it does make 4e dangerous to the characters without a lot of DM beligerence>

The reason the arguement is a "peeing contest" is because the rules presented in the "what you should know XP handout" do not mention that the extended rest is a once a day option, however the Scalegloom rules that have been posted on this board (supposedly what the DM's where looking at during the XP) state that the extended rest is once a day. Until the full rules come out or a reliable source says one way or the other however it's not worth the effort.

On my wishlist could someone post both the "XP Handout Sheet" and the "Scalegloom Rules5" files for me, I'm too lazy to look them up right now.

Where does it say that you can only make one extended rest in a day?

The quick start rules that were used at DDXP and, I'm presuming are based on the 4E rules, stated that Extended Rest was once per day.

Uh...that's what I said. You get your dailies back after an extended rest but you can only take advantage of that once in a day. Am I taking crazy pills here?

I was responding to a suggestion that an extended rest taken less than 18 hours after your day began would restore HP but NOT restore dailies, which by everything we've seen in the rules released to day is simply untrue.
