Fallout 3 or, why hasn't this come up yet?

More randomness too it, of course. I played it through a few times, but each time was exactly the same. How about multiple story arcs/endings(besides Bla bla this happened here, this place thrived, this place didn't), instead of a linear story?

And more options for non-gun-nuts. I tried to play a kung-fu type in #2, but it became so ineffective that even with 5% in energy weapons, and 140% in unarmed, I hit more often and more effectively with my plasma rifle than with my fists/feet AND I had the crit-happy SLAYER perk. ARGH!

Plus a different graphic interface. And faster combat. I hated having to wait for every single character in every single town to RUN AWAY FROM MY AWESOME *ahem* do something before I could take my next action. Often this took minutes at a time, WITH a high-end PC.

My biggest wish this far is for someone besides the group that did Morrowind to do the game. The last I read, while there were no promises, they were planning to "captialize on their exsisting assets, tools and skills to make the best gameplay possible." AKA, make something similar to what they've allready done. My Morrowind expierence was pretty shabby.

On an optimistic note, I'd like to see more types of weapons, and I'm hoping to make the first game's "pacifist mode" run more successfully than I did in Fallout 2.

If they lose the turn-based combat, they've lost a customer. (Sure, they must find a way to speed it up NPCs though!)

If they lose the isometric perspective, it will need to get 5 star reviews for me to consider it. I could possibly deal with something like Neverwinter Nights perspective... but it would be a tough sell...

I would like the Fallout 3 to get into other parts of the continent than the Southwest US.

Ultra-simple way to build add ons, expansions, etc.

A Neverwinter Nights' like ability to design your own expansions, and host them yourself on a server with the ability for others to connect to your own designed work.

What I'd really like of course is for Troika to go back to work on it.

Though I gather that they also have a post-apocolyptic game in the works, so even if they don't do Fallout 3 they will be keeping thir hands in.

The Auld Grump, playing Arcanum again... This time around the bunny beat the werewolf...

I'm not too upset that Bethesda are the ones doing it.

Black Isle lost a ton of talent even before Fallout 2 was made, then even more afterwards, and frankly, I was beginning to dread the idea of another Fallout game.

Troika is a company I wouldn't mind doing it, but I think it's pretty clear by not that they can go wrong... Arcanum was good (especially patched) but very flawed in certain ways, and ToEE had a good turn-based 3.5 engine, and little else. I'm kind of anxious to see how their Vampire game turns out, because I do want them to suceed.

All in all, someone new taking a stab at it might actually be a good idea... My biggest concern is not turn-based combat, but whether they keep a strong story and the ability to interact with a lot of unique NPCs, and - most importantly - whether they go back to the post-apocalyptic basics, because Fallout 2 was just too high tech, polished and overpopulated for my taste. I want a game in which it feels like it matters when you finally get a working gun and a decent amount of ammo, instead of tripping over automatic and energy weapons.

Kind of skimming the entire conversation, anyway a few comments.

Linear.. fallout? I can't think of a crpg that is any less linear than fallout (Okay maybe morrowind), but it has been awhile since I have played it. My favorite thing about fallout was the 'grey' aspect of the game; conversations with NPCs wasn't like most crpgs. What I mean is you can choose more then: choose either a) (eyes glow) No, I will stab you in the heart and eat your soul or b) (pets fluffy bunny) Of course I will help you, no I don't need payment.

That said, this is fallout3 in name only, as the original group left to greener pastures when black isle had a lil poo and fan.. the "real" fallout 3 is right here: http://www.the-fall.com/

I can't wait for *that* :)
