And no love for Ben :(

The Thing is supposed to be the prankster of that team, not the Torch. More often than not the Torch is only funny when mocking the Thing.

Apparently they've made Ben Grimm all depressed and un-funny (or so I've heard).

Maybe they've revamped the character, but the Ben Grimm I remember from the 60's and 70's was a very tortured guy, feeling like he was the one cursed by the Cosmic ray accident, until he met Alicia. Johnny was the womanizer, the guy who drove fast cars (the whole "I need names... and shots" was a perfect line for him!) and the joker. He was a hot head for a hot power, and only later in the comic run did he grow up and sober up a bit.

Yep, the Human Torch was the lighthearted one, and had hilarious team-ups with Spiderman.

Dr. Doom, though, gets totally mangled in an "Ultimate FF"-kind of way

Just a quick note on the Hulk:

I thought it was the worst Marvel movie (yes, worse than Daredevil and Elektra). The "comic book panel" never synched with me, the "Vogue! Strike a pose!" death of Glenn Talbot, the hulk-poodle, Nick Nolte's completely dreadful performance, the whole Bruce "Krenzler" thing...

I quite liked Eric Bana as Banner, and the effects of Hulk, and Jenniffer Connelly is always easy on the eyes. But that does not a good movie make.

Thanks for your attention. Back to FF now...
Not to mention the downhill 1/3 of the movie, when the drama and tension were mostly used up for some strange reason.

I don't see anything at all to even lead me to suspect that FF will be a bad movie relative to, say X-men or Spiderman. I'm quite looking forward to it. As for "prove me wrong" several weeks before the movie's even out -- seems a bit premature.

For someone with a Ben Grimm avatar, you sure seem to have missed the boat on what his character was like, or we're reading completely different FF issues!

Besides, I liked the orc shaman a lot better!

I have a feeling it is going to come out this way:
Ben Grimm: good
Dr Doom: good
Johnny Storm: not good
Reed Richards: not good
Sue Storm: not good
Story: weak
Plot: Lame
Effects: good
Dialog: weak
Ben Grimm: the effects in the preview actually didn't excite me that much. I'm not sure if he'll be good or not.
Dr. Doom: I'm still not sure what the folks who are decrying what they think movie Doom will be are talking about. Looksl fine to me.
Johnny Storm: Most charismatic character so far in the preview. Good.
Reed Richards: Never liked him much as a comic book character either, so he's got an uphill battle.
Sue Storm: Jessica Alba in a tight suit. Good! :p
Story and Plot: Uh; what's the difference between them? Anyway, the first X-men movie had only a fair-to-middling story, but it was good enough and did great set-up for the greatly superior X2 movie.
Effects: Not sold yet. Will almost certainly work just fine, but I don't know that they'll be spectacular.
Dialogue: Looks OK so far. Not that we know much about it.

Anyway, Hand, it seems your "analysis" is just unfounded pessimism and cynicism.

I'll give you one thing - there were some funny moments in the comics with Ben Grimm, but most of them were "Tragic Comedy" type moments. My personal favorite (not an FF issue) was an issue of Marvel Fanfare (a series I dearly loved) where Johnny Storm plays a TON of April Fool's practical jokes on Ben, only to have Ben remind him it's March 31st. :D

And then Ben rigs up a Fire hose and sonic trigger to the Torch's air vent to his room, only to be blasted with the Torch's final joke, an exploding cigar.

Ahhh, good times. :)

Yeah. Johnny gets all the good lines in the trailer.

-Sue, looking at heat-seeking missle-"Don't even think about it!"

-Johnny- "Never do." -Jumps off building-

Cute, but definitely in-character.

I don't expect to be enlightened, but I figure I'll be entertained.

That was what probably sold me on the movie so far. For years and years, the unofficial battle cry of the Fantastic Four was 'Johnny! Don't!'

I know, trailers today seem to turn me away from a movie rather than attract me and I think I am jaded from all the weak and bad comic book movies, Daredevil was not bad other than Ben Afleck (I have issues with him), Hulk was a disappointment, Electra was just crap, LXG was good but left me feeling FXed out. The great Spiderman, the very good X-Men.

I am hyped about Batman. ;)

Dr. Doom: I'm still not sure what the folks who are decrying what they think movie Doom will be are talking about. Looksl fine to me.

Not the look I'm objecting to at all. It's the character's nature and background, both of which are changed drastically for the movie. The guy in the movie may look like the Dr. Doom of the comics, but he's not the same character by any stretch of the imagination.

I'll agree about DOOM. Changing to "Space Marine fights mutated people" just falls flat compared to "Space Marine fights Demons from a Gate to Hell." :D

It worked for Event Horizon, why not this? :)
