The biohazard company made a really sales pitch back at the 1997 GenCon. It stunk of treehugger almost to hippy commune level, but it was a good pitch.

I jusy hope FFG didn't split 1 good book into 5 sub par books [though they likly did]. but 5 each was a good enough price for me.

Not at all. First of all, it's still the same creatives behind it, they're just using FFG's marketing muscle of publishing and distribution.

Secondly, the new players and moderators guides, together, have all the content of the old core book plus the archipelagos supplement, and then a bit more. (Well, except of course the old system stuff isn't there, replaced by the new system stuff.) The stuff in the rest of the books is pretty much all new, and is in addition to what was in the original 1st-ed books. The only 1st ed content that i can't immediately recall the disposition of is the little booklet that came with the GM's screen--that might've found it's way into the new moderator's guide, or into one of the supplements, or have not been republished; i just don't remember.

Anyway, it's all good material. And i see that they're out of Ancient Echoes, i think that's the only book in the line that i don't have. Figures.

Not at all. The Player's and Moderator's Guide contain all the information from BPv1.0 and Archipelago: A Guide to the Islands (the first and only sourcebook for BPv1.0), and more - not to mention an actually playable system. These books are packed with information.

All the other books only add to this. And how!

Wow! Buy the Blue Planet sourcebooks now! That's one of the most brilliant RPG settings out there!

Thanks Jürgen--while I'm not the creator, I was one of the original writers :D

Well, credit where credit is due.

BTW, how about continuing the line as PDFs on RPGNow? I've heard rumors that the rights went back to the original authors, and plenty of us would like to see Black Crusade or Wormhole...

And while Blue Planet unfortunately seems to have remained in its own niche as a print product (probably too high concept for most people...), it might be fairly profitable as a PDF...

Just a thought from me and lots of other rabid fanboys. :D

Next time I chat with Jeff, I'll bring that up, and although it's been quite a few years since I was involved with writing for the game, I still love it, and would welcome the opportunity to do so again!

Grodog, if you and the other principals are interested in releasing it all in pdf, drop me an email at creech[at]dragonwing[dot]net.

Blue Planet: Wow!

Well, my Blue Planet corebooks arrived from FFG today, and all I can say is....after less than an hour of thumbing through them, I jumped back online and ordered all the rest of the supplement books!

Wow. This is very impressive. I've only just begun to take it all in, but the detail in this setting is tremendously evocative, and just really rings true. It's so obvious this was written by a biologist! They've definitely captured the feel of an oceanic setting. Their attention to detail on ocean currents, an expanded tropical zone, and island cultures is all excellent. I love that their "monster" list includes harmless wildlife that mostly serves as a natural resource.

The mechanics seem pretty straightforward, and look like they allow pretty free-ranging character development.

I don't know how excited I am about the whole alien legacy thing. I like that there's an indigenous race that's still largely undiscovered, but the ancient alien thing seems a little trite. Similar alien metaplots royally screwed up 7th Sea, and I'm not particularly fond of the one in Star Drive either.

That aside, I'm looking forward to digging into this more and seeing the rest. $5 a pop?!? What a bargain!

Thanks for the relentless evangelizing, Jürgen! You've won one acolyte today. ;)

Now....to find somebody to play with. :\

Carl

After reading all the high praise being given by the various members of EnWorld, I just placed a rather large order at FFG.

Thankfully I have relatives in Minnesota, as the shipping options to my home in Canada was rather obscene.

It must be the cost of the huskies needed to pull the sled the sixty miles from the U.S. border.
