Fantasy Movies (non sword and sorcery)

Journey to the Center of the Earth is an older (1959) movie that I picked up on DVD a couple of weeks ago. I remembered it from one of those Adventure Theater afternoon movies on TV. It's absolutely brilliant. It's got Adventure, an evil villian, and Dimetrodons (Big sail-backed reptiles that predate Dinosaurs)... Well... they're actually brown iguanas with sail ridges glued on.

Watching it again I realized what a perfect non-sword and Sorcery D&D movie it is.

The adventurers gather together in an Inn in a far off land. They've found what amounts to a treasure map. They pool their resources and journey into the depths of the earth, seeking glory and scientific knowledge.

I really can't reccomend this movie enough.

I'm looking for other non-sword and sorcery movies to add to my Adventure movie collection. Any Ideas?

It's also got the funniest Icelandic character ever. It's hillarious... if you're Icelandic.

Well, "The Long Ships" has no sorcery, it is more of an adventure movie that I think you will like. It is available on DVD, but not sure how available.

It shows what a rogueish skald could do to generate a lot of adventure.

Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are both great fantasy stories.

More mythological than fantasy, but I always liked Clash of the Titans.
