Farscape rumors poping up again

There have been rumours that canned sci-fi eries “Farscape” might be making a comeback. And investigative Garth Franklin did some digging at Dark Horizons. “Last week an insider sent along this rumour: "Farscape is back in production - the series is to be wrapped up in 4-6 new episodes with the usual crew, cast and producers. The props and sets are being dusted off and are being assembled in preparation for filming in Sydney. The new mini-season will complete the story arc and bring closure". An interesting story and a solid source but still it sounded almost like wishful thinking and as there still hasn't been any official announcement about it I held off. After all, you would've thought Sci-Fi would have shouted it from the rooftops that its coming back to appease the ravenous fans of the show (incl. me). Then some people I know connected with the show started mentioning it's coming back and its confirmed that the Sydney production office is open again. I placed three separate calls to them on Tuesday to confirm/deny the rumours and all three calls were not only summarily cut off at their end but the secretary hurled nasty insults (courtesy is a dying art) - I've never had problems with these guys before so best guess would be they've been advised not to speak to press at all (which would explain the lack of coverage locally). That would also explain that when I got in contact with a US publicity rep for Sci-Fi, they said they couldn't comment on it at this time but will be releasing details when they're available soon. Something IS stirring, I guess we'll have to wait to find out what exactly.” Nice work G.
Keeping fingers crossed.:D

I had thought they destroyed the sets, but maybe not.

I know that they had some plans for a movie, and an anime-ish series though, maybe that's where this is coming from.

Or, maybe SFC wised up? Naaaah. :)

I'm keeping three fingers crossed though... and let me tell you, it's painful. :p

My realist/cynic side says that it's terribly unlikely. :(

My shameless fanboy side wants to cheer, "Huzzah!". :)

Read that a press conference that was supposed to deal with Farscape by the Jim Henson group was set for today but later rescheduled for next week.

Here's hoping against hope . . . .

OK, think about it logically:

Where's the money to be made - ESPECIALLY if the original sets were "struck" and have to be rebuilt?

Are there indications of a fanbase of sufficient size to sell a 6-episode run of DVD's to? Are there indications of a Farscape movie?

If the supposition is a limited TV series, I don't see a production company ponying up that kind of money to satisfy the terribly unsatisyingly unfinished story arc.

I'm not trying to be cynical, just realistic. If someone has some info on the "show me the money" aspect of this, the rumor would seem a lot mroe solid.

Well, the last thing I had heard was "Movie", even if it was one o those SciFi movies or a four-hour "two-movie" run, like a very short version of "Taken" that they know would get big ratings.

Obviously, the show can't have gained many more viewers since being kept off the air for nine months, shown briefly, and then cancelled. But as a SciFi Cinema experience, I think it has the name-power to do at least as well as any of SciFi's other cinema experiences -- and at least the sets are already made.

But as you said, Realism Good. I wasn't expecting another season. I wasn't expecting an in-theater film. I knew that a graphic novel was a possibility, and if they used the same writers from the show, maybe it would be close enough to keep some continuity going (I don't dislike graphic novels, but I don't usually consider them part of the continuity of the universe in which they take place, just because of how different they usually sound and feel).
