Fate of 3.5 Support on WotC Website

Will you archive the 3.5e SRD and the MSRD (as well as the OGLv1.0a), even when 4e SRD is made available?

There's a hypertext SRD here and the D&D Wiki has the SRD and MSRD available for perusal. Neither of these are associated with WotC as far as I know. I think the original license states they are here to stay since nobody can rescind it. I think. No?

And isn't the 4e SRD gonna be a lot less in the way of usable? Like it is strictly reference like in the card catalog sense (i.e. refer to page XX of the Player's Handbook or page XX of the Dungeonmaster's Guide).

I believe it will be archived as was the 2nd ed and 3.0 content. It doesn't make a ton of sense to yank it down.

That sounds promising. I haven't really seen what's on the site for almost two years though. I did some quick digging and looks like my favorites are still there though.

However, I've had pretty much the old Spellbook not just saved, but printed out and put together with a bunch of Web Enhancement printouts that I had. The Web Enhancements themselves are on a CD somewhere, along with the 2e .pdfs, and should still be accessible. I think I have a good chunk of the Monster Mayhem stuff saved. And I'm pretty sure I had the Far Corners of the World all saved somewhere too.

That leaves Map of the Week, I'm not sure if I got around to saving those or not, I know I lost my archive of them at least once and had to go back and resave the whole lot of them. Still, Map of the Week is something that should be just as useful in 4e as 3e, so there's no reason to get rid of that. The same goes for the PC Portraits.

I know they're here to stay. I just wanted to know if WotC is going to keep them up as well?

And not to be fickle, but can you bring back the 3.0e SRD, the one that started all this?

Voila

I'm not trying to be contentious but is it really WotC's responsibility? The SRDs belong to the gaming community. To keep their own products up makes sense, that's just good PR. I say if it's available what matters the source?

They drafted it.

And then released it too the gaming public. I see it more as our responsibility to ensure that it remains viable. Anything produced with any of the SRDs is competing with WotC's products. Sure competition keeps the market going but do they have to foster it?

What is your reasoning other than they drafted it. It's open. Doesn't that make it the Open Gaming Foundation or its derivatives responsible?

This is really good news as there's a wealth of good material on there. Thanks for your input, Sco...um, The Rouse.

My hope is that wotc treats this as microsoft would an OS release, keep the support of the previous product open for 3 to 5 years

If I painted a picture, gave it to a friend, and his kid spilled kool-ade all over it, is it my responsibility to paint him another? While that might be the nice thing to do, and it would depend on just how good a friend he was and how much spare time I had, it's certainly no responsibility.
