Favorite 1st level module?

Legend
So I'm thinking of running a new d20 fantasy/D&D face to face campaign for a friend of mine starting at 1st level. We've both been playing since the early 80s so neither is new to D&D although he might want to play a d20 wheel of time spellcaster which would be a first for my actual in game experience. I was looking over my collection of modules and trying to decide what to start off with. I've got a ton of older edition modules that would not be too tough to convert and plenty I have not used and there are plenty available fairly cheaply as pdfs. I've also got a few d20 modules and there are some series (like MEG's foul locales) I might be interested in getting.

So this led me to wonder what people's favorite modules for 1st level are?

Not favorite introduction to the game modules, but favorite ones for 1st level characters, of any edition or even outside of the D&D/d20 field?

I prefer ones that allow even 1st level PCs to be competent adventurous heroes from the start and I'm currently considering Harvest of Darkness (3.0 Kalamar), Gryphon's Legacy (3.0) , Return to the Keep on the borderlands (2e), Quest for the Unknown (Hackmaster and I'd have to modify a lot of themes), and B1-9 the compilation module (basic D&D).

So what in your experience has been the best 1st level module you've seen?

Well, of you want a bit of mystery, B6 is pretty hard to beat, but I'd seek out the actual module rather than what's in B1-9 or the pdf, as both are missing some of the elements of the original module.

B4 is nice if you enjoy Dungeon Crawls.

U1 is pretty good, either used as written or as a place to scavage from, as I have always used it.

Most of the classic stuff is great, but I'll just throw out one of the 'newer' ones that for some reason I just love.

The Burning Plague. Its short, pretty simple, but something about it just works great and each time I run it for a group of players they love it.

Favorite first level modules...

Hmm. Off the top of my head, Crucible of Freya, NeMoren's Vault, and Idylls of the Rat King. All three have a very old-school feel and are well-designed.

I also really like C&C's Assault on Blacktooth Ridge. It works well as a starting mini-campaign.

Tough to choose just one... My favorites that jump immediately to mind:

- Lost City of Barakus
- Keep on the Borderlands
- Crucible of Freya (+ Wizard's Amulet)

Maiden Voyage by Atlas Games is a solid little introductory piece.
I've gotten a lot of use out of recent Dungeon adventures too. Mad God's Key was excellent, as was Box of Flumph.

I think Keep on the Borderlands is the best 1st level module, but I also really liked Palace of the Silver Princess as well.
