Favorite Gnome N/PC?

Oni

First Post
What with all the gnome hating that has gone on recently I thought it was time to show a little love. It's a race I haven't done much with and I would really like to see some of your favorite gnome npc's or pc's that you have created or encountered.

And now I know this is difficult, but I would be appreciative if you gnome haters out there would refrain posting things like:

"What's my favorite gnome character?"

"A dead one."

et c. and so forth.

So let's show the love!

Ratiem.

A tricksy little illusionist whose pursuit of laughter went so far as to have him be mostly useless in combat. :) He was in 2e, though...3e, I might make itbetter. :)

My very first AD&D character was a gnome fighter. Within the first couple of adventures he found these magic sapphires that somehow burrowed their way into his eye sockets, and so could shoot a beam of blue fire from his eyes 3x per day, doing 1d20 damage with each hit! Later, he got even more mangled (my DM was really into some of Gary Gygax's DMG tables that dealt with demon/devil mutations etc.). At one point he was killed, then somehow his upper body got attached to a unicorn's body, kind of like a centaur. Very weird!

Hmm, the other major gnome I can think of is a deep gnome illusionist/thief named Snumpkin Lumpkin, played by my friend Andy. He was a pretty typical prankster -- loved using unseen servant to play jokes from afar.

Orbril the Gnome, Master of the Grand Circus Maximus and Founder of the Royal College of Troubadors.

He started of as an Alchemist (Scorcerer) with a love of fireworks and his very first act as a young and naive gnome with a wunderlust was to hide amongst the luggage of a Noble woman who was going to be teleported to her new role as Lady Governor in her country (which was part of a larger empire). He was caught and almost killed except that the Lady took pity on him and gave him a job as Palace Jester instead.

Here he was able to engage in a variety of adventures - including one were I got a Magic singing rock named Hortence (it was a rock - it sang) and also took some levels in Bard and Druid. During one adventure in which the party was suppose to catch a griffon Orbril made a comment about Giant Carnivorous Hamsters which the DM took up and within a few nights we were attacked by Giant Carnivorous Hamsters. Anyway at this point I hit upon the idea of starting his own circus so instead of killing the Hamsters I used nets to catch them, hired a Ranger to train them and soon had a caravan pulled by four of these Hamsters.

I went about hiring a few other performers and an accountant and the Grand Circus Maximus was born. Soon the Circus Maximus acquired a Training Ground (a large valley on the outskirts of the city) were I went about building a Circus training area which eventually expanded to become the Royal College of Troubadors

Anyway Orbril pretty much makes an appearance in every campaign I run (even if only a bit character eg I might have the Circus Maximus caravan heading out of town for another tour drive past the PCs ...)

That is really cool, what a great magic item idea. I can see this poor little gnome with gemstone eyes.

My current character in my Dnd game here at home!

Oswald the Many Colored.

He's a Gnome Invoker5/Elemental Savant1 who loves Ice.

He's a boatload of fun, bad jokes and all. He wears an electric blue outfit with canary trim, and wears a cloak that looks like the rainbow.

Sundergaard Goodbrew

NPC Gnome Innkeeper/owner who is reknown as a master brewer. His beers are famous throughout the campaign area (northern border of the Duchy of Ulek). IMC, it was the gnomes who introduced the lager and other varieties of beer to the general populace (except for stouts -- they tend to be a Dwarven product :p).

Cheers,
Tim

FEAR THE TERRIBLE GNOMENGRA, WHO HAS STIRRED FROM HIS AEONS-OLD SLUMBER TO LAY WASTE TO THE CITY OF TOKYO!

Favourite gnome character: Erky Timbers, the cleric from Sunless Citadel, on account of his being the only gnome character I've so far encountered.

Gnome of Garden Variety
(from Tinkers of Tinsdale)
by Gnomebert and Sillinom (Gillinom Millinom etc., etal, ad infinitum)

I'm really rather partial to, the Garden Gnome variety,
The others breech the dictates of a sensible society,
I know the gnomes of Greyhawk, and they boast of feats beyond compare
Forgotten Realms to Dragonlance, they really are extraordinaire,
They have a streak ingrained in them that borders on the mischievous,
But you can see how this brings on their natural adventurousness,
And on their skill with metalcrafts, I've got to say they take the cake,
There truly is no limit to, the wondrous items they create,
I've known them all, and heard their deeds, the gnomes who lack all piety,
I must say I am fonder of the Garden Gnome variety.

They have a sense of comfort and are Hobbit-like in their approach,
But unlike all the Baggins's, a garden gnome's beyond reproach,
If they've a fault, it is their dress, it can be rather frivolous,
But count on them when things go bad, remarkably so chivalrous,
Perhaps you'd say they waste the day and stand around unendingly,
You might as well, if round the belt, afflicted so unbendingly,
Though one would think with all that time they'd border on anxiety,
And may give way to thoughts that stray toward wanton impropriety,
You have to give them credit for unswerving pure sobriety,
Temperately stern amongst the bulbs, the Garden Gnome variety.

So pardon me now, if you please, my abject selectivity,
It may come off as umbrage or, unreasoned negativity,
But keep your gnomes who stray from home and gain some notoriety,
For my part give me, anyday, the Garden Gnome variety.

Priggle, the unipolar depressive gnome from PirateCat's Story Hour.

Honourable mentions to the gnomes of the Temple of Elemental Evil SH: Gnomer; Gnomishic; Eliad Pelgrin; Ender OverUnder; Fonkin Bastich and Boddyknock Kicker. Especially Fonkin Bastich, for the gname alone.
