I predict that if you rerun this poll in 48 months then 4th edition will win easily.
I predict that 4 years from now the new shiny will be an ancient memory and a lot fewer people will vote in the poll.

4th (mechanics, style) has replaced AD&D 2nd Edition (style only).

I find 4th Ed is making me want to run a Basic or 1st Ed campaign (first time in 14 years), alongside my 4th Ed.

2nd Ed did have wonderful campaign settings and modules, though, IMO.

I'm going to go a bit out on a limb and say 2nd Edition Skills & Powers, mainly beccause I like disadvantages and the "Design your own race" feel it had.

I agree (as I duck the incoming barrage of rotten fruits & vegetables) ;) . 2e seems to be the ugly step-child of D&D, but I had more fun playing and running it than any other edition.

I too played more of 2nd Ed than any other edition (and had a blast), but it just became too much of a Frankenstein's monster at one point (what also happened with 3rd, in my experience).

For a "rules-set": 4E

For inspiration: Lots of stuff published before 1986-1987.

2E and 3E, as much as I enjoyed them, do fall in between. (Though if we dragged the OGL into this, then things get more complicated).

2E for me, really hit it's peak not long before 3E, when we did things like flipped some of the scores so roll-high was always good, and incorporated a bit, but not much, of Skills & Powers.

I think 4E has the potential to be as fun, but we didn't really enjoy 3E/3.5E as much (too much planning in character design, too many magic items "needed" etc.).

My favourite itteration was 3.Wombat, where, after three years of houseruling, I finally got the rules into a shape I was happy to live with, even if it was not my all-time favourite game.
