Did the old version, with Jack Nicholson as the masochistic dental patient, show the plant talking, too? I can't remember. I liked the one with Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, and Bill Murray in it better anyway, because of them and because of the songs.

Myconids.

Just due to how they were depicted in Drizzit books - say what you say about the dark elf, but Salvatore did have a fresh take on some D&D races. His depiction of the myconids living in the underdark was very interesting, making them seem suitably alien while still giving pointers for roleplaying them.

I recently used some Thorns (from MM2, I believe) that I thought worked out pretty well. They all had different plant traits, and resembled a specific kind of plant - one of them was made of rose vines (Rosewhip), another was mostly poison ivy, and another was made of nettles. It worked well for when I needed some warrior-fey, and the PCs did underestimate them quite a bit. They were allies for a while, until one of the PCs killed the one they had been traveling with, since he had a hatred of fey.

That ended up getting him killed.

Mushroom lady

Zugettemoy (fiend, but LOOKS like a mushroom lady)

MM2 has a plant that looks like Audrey II: maybe make it fiendish/paragon? High intelligence+ language = Audrey.
