Vlad Martell, our Milandisian fighter, wields a blade known as Grungronazharr. It means "forged of fire" in dwarvish and sure enough, it gives him fire resistance. It recently became empathic due to a wish, and it can even detect traps. He received the blade from Elabac the dwarven master forger of Solanos Mor as thanks for saving him.

Elabac's apprentice, Beldin Soulforge, wields the dwarven axe Bakboga, which translates to "cuts so quickly that it blows out candles." Beldin calls it Windcutter in the common tongue. He received it after remembering his former giant heritage (all dwarves in Arcanis were once giants) and defeating a dozen k'n-yan singlehandedly in the Dreamheart.

A few weapons are named after the people they were taken from. Coombs' Dagger, which literally freezes the blood, was taken by Kham from Michael Coombs, who murdered Kham's father. Bezyli's Dagger, which returned after it was thrown, was given to Ilmare after Captain Bezyli's death in thanks for her help in saving The Shrike's crew.

Kham val'Abebi was possessed by the dreaded Fleshripper, a blade that consumed the souls of those it had slain. Kham eventually broke free of the thing and was blessed with a holy weapon known as Libertas Spiritus, or the Spirit of Freedom. Kham hates that name and renamed the scimitar Talon.

EDIT: Gah, forgot Kham's "ladies"! All his flintlock pistols have names: Jessica, Victoria, Melara, and Alita. Kham's tight-lipped as to where the names came from, although there's a nasty rumor that they're all former lovers who died in horrible ways due to their affiliation with bad-luck-Kham.

For more details on how these weapons are used, see my story hour: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=103252

J.A.T.O. It was a dagger that you could "launch" about 120' and do a lot of damage. Only problem was you then had to go get it. It wasn't named R.A.T.O. - Returning Assisted Take-Off. :)

Firefly for the win! Easily one of the best named weapons ever.

My second favourite is Reason, the ultra-chaingun from the novel Snow Crash. In a conflict you could resort to violence, or you could use Reason. :p

The most notable weapon in my last D&D campaign was the dwarven waraxe belonging to Jebodiah Bugman the partys fighter/barbarian/frenzied berserker. Named Stormcleaver, it was a +3 Intelligent Thundering Dwarf Waraxe. One of its powers was the ability to add +10 to Intimidate checks. It was found in the lair of a Red Dragon that actually killed Jebodiah (his 2nd death in 24 hours as a tribe of Dracotaurs had just killed him too).

In all these years of playing, I've only had a handful of weapons that had names.

My original PC, a fighter / paladin, has a longsword called "Silver Scalpel" (named, in part, after the Grey Mouser's sword).

My Living Arcanis PC has a flintlock pistol called "Dead Man's Hand."

My Living Force PC had an Underslung repeating blaster rifle that our primary DM named "Painless" (I believe that's after the weapon that Vasquez uses in "Aliens").

Sayef Mundhir, the Sword of Kindly Reproof. A mildly intelligent weapon made out of sand that can change itself into any one-handed or light weapon, size appropriate to the wielder. Named for its role as a tool of a particular ancient sultan's head enforcer and assassin.

The Five Gifts. A set of five weapons, presented as a show of fealty from a group of five regional tribes when they were absorbed into a particular empire long-ago. They are -

Bright Crown. A light mace with a solar theme.

Smile at Dusk. A hand axe with a lunar theme.

Pillar of Heaven. A quarterstaff with a sky theme.

Wavestriker. A shortspear with an ocean theme.

Mountain Tooth. A punching dagger with a mountain theme.

Grim Purpose. A keen greataxe with an ability similar to the Explosive and Flaming Burst properties. In short, when a critical hit is struck the weapon erupts into a point blank, area of effect blast of flame. Not an ally-friendly weapon, but devastating against massed groups of foes. Gained its name from a passing descriptive phrase - "Roland strode foreward to meet the onrushing host, his hands heavy with grim purpose".

Celestial War - A holy, good outsider bane spear. It lived up to its name.

When Ice Covers the Land "Ice"- a ragnerock capable sword carved from stone, it could change size, and a medium greatsword was its smallest form. Its full powers were never seen although by the end of the campaign (19th level) it was a +5 frostblade that could suppress flame within 240 ft.

Justice - and intelligent weapon wielded by the worlds first paladin.
