FDA approves "The Chip", a step to the future, or to The End?

never had much experience with Chicago public schools, but i do know about them from other people - and i'm sure that's one way it will start. then, you can't get a credit card without one, can't open a bank account, get a drivers license...

We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

This would greatly reduce all of the paperwork that one has to do before getting even the most minor medical treatment, greatly speeding up processing in the medical system.

However, I'm playing through Deus Ex right now, so naturally I'm a little paranoid. ;)

Well, with this, a certain conspiracy theory has gone from the realm of conspiracy to the realm of very possible reality. I say no more lest I wane political and get this thread closed.

My sentiments exactly. It's easy to say this could be a case of "conspiracy theorists run amuck." But it is a reality. This technology (RFID) is out there and ready to use. The technology to abuse RFIDs is also out there. So what's the stop someone from making the connection?

And I, too, do not want to make this political. But those of you who think the government always makes decisions, and bases technology usage upon, the best interests of their nation need to look at your history a little closer, no matter what nation you live in.

just stick a tiny computer chip between their shoulder blades and, if they ever run away, the shelter that finds the animal can just scan them and find their owner.

Read this phrase again. Let it sink in. Let it sink in some more. Ask yourself: "What could possibly go wrong?"

Note, that the government is invariably restricted by the power that is money, which is in the hand of corporations. No matter what nation you live in.

Pretty bleak prospects :(

Not ready, being used. It is already in place in Mexico, they use it at a bank or something.

Actually, they're being used by the folks who have access to criminal records there. They just got a new state-of-the-art system there and since corruption is rampant in Mexico, they wanted to make sure only authorized folks had access to the records. The officials have the chips implanted in their right upper arms near their shoulders, according to what I read.

Note that the chips are easy to disable, they can be crushed and that'll kill them, FYI. :) The scarier part is that they've developed some chips that are the size of the period at the end of this sentence. Try spotting that on your clothing, in your cell phone, eyeglasses, shoes, etc. They're also still developing chips that can withstand being placed in bullets so they can track who bought the ammunition. Scared yet?
