Feng Shui: The Dragons Reborn OOC (Full)

Just popping in to say you've got an audience. I've never played Feng Shui, but I love reading it (there's a really good story hour or two of it on these boards).

Anyway, just sayin'. Pass the popcorn...

Well, I hope you enjoy "watching" our game unfold as much as I'm enjoying running it, and as much as these guys (hopefully) enjoy playing it. Hell, you're welcome to join in when we get around to the sequel; it's an easy game to get a handle on, and I'm always cool with bringing in people new to the whole experience.

Now that I'm actually talking about the game itself, I think we've got ourselves quite a good group here. Everybody's got the spirit of the action down, and coming up with some good stunts, and hopefully I'll be able to keep the game interesting.

As a question to my players, I know it's probably way too early to form any solid opinions, but how are you guys enjoying it so far? Any suggestions, comments, or requests on how everything's flowing? Just so you'll know, I do intend to introduce the Secret War, but I'm being a little more subtle with it (subtle that is, until Two Smiles comes in, wink wink, nudge nudge).

Just for a side note, I'll also add that my initial idea when starting up was to have a game where the PCs get caught in the middle of the Secret War and eventually form the new Dragons faction, and in the sequel (whenver that came around) I'd start a new game open to characters from several if not all junctures (old characters could be used, or people could add new ones and assume their old characters were off doing some solo work, drumming up recruits, honing their skills, or even spending some quality time with their family before going off to rejoin the War). We might still go that route eventually, but with the bunch of hoodlums you guys made, it can easily go quite a different direction.

Edit: Holy jebus, I just had a spark of inspiration. What if I ran another game set in a different juncture? Then later on, seeing as all roads lead to the netherworld, you guys could mix up and oh good lord I'm liking this idea...

Would that game be open to the people playing in this one?

Heh. I write up a world-weary, tarnished spy and it looks like I'm playing the Paladin. :)

As for the game so far, I'm enjoying myself. I don't know how deliberate it was, but introducing May was a great tactic to get Jack involved with everyone else's underworld goings on. The fight scenes are interesting - certainly slower-paced than a face-to-face Feng Shui game would be, but it's sort of nice having the luxury of time to think of cool stunts.

I'm certainly up for the Secret War being introduced (my main design goal was to create a character who would jump at the chance to join the Dragons) but if the plot goes in a different direction, I'll go along for the ride.

And starting another game in a different juncture is a great idea. I'd be sort of interested in playing in that one as well (I loves me some Feng Shui!) but I don't want to deny someone else the chance to play, so I guess I should be an alternate.

Well right now the entire notion is just a sparkle in my eye, so I can't positively say "yes" or "no" until I get a solid notion of what I want to do. I think yes, though I'd like to get other players (assuming I could muster up some) the first draft.

tsadkiel - May was kinda-sorta deliberate, in that I threw her in to reinforce Mark Huan's "I'm a crime boss!" image, then I realised that she'd have to get involved with the Spy (hey, what else can hook a spy so easily?). I still don't know what happened in Oslo, but I figure it probably involved a lot of innocent people dying horrible, horrible deaths...

So yeah, if I decide to get another game rolling, we'll see who I can get to play - that is, unless somebody's up for really shaking things up and running it instead... In any case, having been thumbing through Seed of the New Flesh recently, I'm finding myself partial to the 2056 juncture, if only because I'd get a kick out of calling everybody "consumer". Of course, I could easily be swayed to 69 or 1890.

Well folks, guess what arrived at my door this morning? Several books, two of them being Gorilla Warfare and Iron & Silk. Gorilla Warfare is nothing but fun, featuring yet another brand of schticks, the Hardware Schtick (I'd definitely give Cyborgs and Monster Hunters from the main book access to these), a couple of weapons (flamethrower, minigun, and missile launcher - oh yes, and the Battlechimp himself has all of them mounted(!)), and all kinds of neat characters serving the Jammers. I like this book quite a bit, I says! This together with Seed of the New Flesh might just give me that extra incentive to go for a 2056 game...

Iron & Silk is much less useful - honestly, it's nothing more than a huge listing of improvised weapons and extra rules for using them. Of course, the whole intent of this book is to stimulate ideas for keen stunts, so it's not bad to own at all. I'm just not sure it's worth 18 bucks...

Good to hear, since I have Gorilla Warfare on order, and am expecting it to show up sometime next week. I;m glad it's good.

Can I ask a quick question, since you've got the book? What juncture does the Viking archetype hail from? I've heard both 69 and 2056.

Actually, the archetype is from 69 and the Netherworld.

Heh, that's not to say that there aren't Vikings in the 2056 juncture, though; a clan found its way into and out of the Netherworld, ending up in Norway in 2040. Strange stuff happened with the chi there, and now it's now one of the few areas not controlled by the Buro.

I guess I'm going to be getting Blood of the Valiant next, and maybe Thorns of the Lotus (debating that one, since I have the original version).

Ah, that makes sense! The student is enlightened.

If you've got the Daedelus version of Thorns, there's no real need to get the new book, since the text is identical. I think I even recognize some typos, but I sold my old copy of Thorns in a moment of insanity, so I can't check.

I have high hopes for the next FS book, Friends of the Dragon. But it'll be a while before they reveal any more about it.

I heard about the cool stuff Atlas has planned for us this year!

Not only are they cranking out Iron and Silk and Friends of the Dragon, but they're also coming through later this year with the book Daedalus didn't get a chance to release -- Blowing Up Hong Kong!

Yes, it's definitely a good time to be a Feng Shui gamer.

Hey, I'd probably be interested in giving your game a try if you do decide to start up a concurrent plot. I've been in mild withdrawal after the last Feng Shui game fizzled out.

I just read through the In Character thus far and it sounds like y'all have a good combination of feel and pacing down. I'll keep an eye on the boards to see if you go ahead with the idea, Mr. Smoke.
