Festival of Halina: Adventurers Gone Wild! (Orsal Judging)

"Undeserved gifts always incur zij, especially those of food that do not allow a return gift. Insisting that a gift does not taints the vhal of the one who does so...it would be akin to telling someone they were so worthless that they need handouts to survive."

Oirhandir started thinking that this would take some time to solve. Why couldn't the woman just accept a simple gift and be done with it?

"Ah, but he would be welcome to join us, would he not?", asked the elf. "Er, so long as he didn't try to buy you dinner or do something underhanded like that, right?"

OOC:[sblock]The line that I wish would be in-character is, "Remind me to cross her off my Christmas list." :) [/sblock]

"It is not underhanded. Though it is admittedly callous to say that it would not incur zij. I have no problem with anyone joining us, of course."

(OOC:[SBLOCK]Christmas gifts would be fine--the problem would be if you gave her a gift and didn't let her buy you one too. Then she'd be upset.[/SBLOCK]

Oirhandir's expression was not unlike the one he would have displayed had he taken a blow to the head. He paused as if to clear cobwebs from his mind. The idea of paying so much mind to who had given what to whom was about as far from Oirhandir's ways as one could get. He couldn't fathom so much...accounting.

"Well, then, it is settled", he announced with conviction. "Carsis, be welcome to join us for dinner tonight, although Lasair neither needs nor desires anything in the way of compensation. I cannot speak for Troi, but as for myself, the pleasure of your company would be payment in full for any service I have rendered you. Perhaps we could play a duet sometime, you on your mandolin and myself on my chimes."

"Well, if that does not incure her any Zij, it would satisfy me to get to know those that helped me at least." Carsis smiles and gives a slight bow to Lasair "I thank you for allowing me this pleasure miss Lasair. You honor a simple wander with your kindness. Perhaps you can explain the nature of Zij, for it seems that the code is much different than my own personal Honor, and I do not wish to offend you."

"A duet? I might enjoy that some time, though I think I had best be sure my mandolin is true before I play. I don't wish to tarnish it any more than I have letting that woman work on it. I don't believe I got your name Mr..."

"Oooh, a duet, I'm excited just to see ya play." says Scarlet to Oirhandir.

"And that, Miss Lasair, is where you do more than you think. This festival is full of those who care only for their own. You do yourself a great disservice by downplaying your importance. Or perhaps you are just the most humble person I've met."

"I have noticed that about this festival too," Lasair replies, ignoring the sideways compliment, "The so-called generous Halina is no more than a selfish charlatan, at least as far as her chosen representatives present her by their hypocrisy during her very festival. These people are more than ready to oppress others to make themselves feel better, even intruding on their very lives."

At this, Troi nods his agreement.

Troi shrugs. "People believe in what they wanna believe, y'know? Personally, I don't do the whole god thing... kinda creeps me out, an' I've had some bad experiences with 'em. But some people need that faith thing, y'know? Ta keep goin' an' whatnot, ta have somethin' ta believe in when things get bad..."

"Interesting way to look at it. You have a good point, but then, look at the festival itself. Helina shares her bounty with everyone, even those others might see as unworthy or undeserving. Now, perhaps with the festivities, people view they have an anomimity and privilage that they might otherwise not have, and simply indulge in their more deviant nature. But there are plenty of fine, upstanding festival goers, such as yourselves, so it is unfair to judge everyone because of the faults of a few. I refuse to let that woman spoil the festival for me, and she won't, with much thanks to you all."
