OOC: Cool. I'm gonna let you guys chat for just a bit, and we'll pick up with the next day tomorow (monday, possibly as early as midnight Central time). The watches will go uneventfully tonight, and so you can talk during the watch, and eventualy in the morning as well.

Enjoy :)

"O...Ocean. What is an ocean?" Lasair responds quizzically

Oirhandir was surprised but not shocked. "You mean you've never seen an ocean? You must not be from around here. Let me think of how to explain it.

All right, you know the part of Orussus where the ships are? They call it the harbor? The place where there is all the water? That's part of the ocean, a little tiny bit of it. If you keep going west, there is more and more water and less and less land. If you go far enough, there is nothing but water for as far as you can see. And if you go for many, many, many miles, eventually you come to some land on the far side of it. That's where I'm from.

All that water in one gigantic puddle like that, that's called an ocean.

Now let me ask. Where are you from that you've never seen or heard of an ocean?"

"I was not in Orussus long," Lasair admits, "So I did not see this harr-bore, but...how can there be that much water in one place? It...it just seems impossible! No wonder people in these lands never swear water oaths...they would be meaningless with oceans lying around..."

Oirhandir nodded. It was becoming clear now.

"How, I don't know. It just is."

Oirhandir pondered for a moment. He wondered what Lasair would have thought of his last adventure, trudging for hours through the muck of a swamp?

"You must be from someplace very dry -- where there is little water", he ventured. "Most people have a name for such a place -- in the common tongue, that name is desert. But I have never been to a desert, although perhaps one day I might like to see one."

"Yes. I suppose my home fits the description I have heard of a desert. With nothing to compare, we had no need for such a word, so we just called it home. Perhaps, one day, I shall be able to return...though there are so many fascinating people and things in this world, that I'm no longer sure if I wish to go back so soon at all."

"Well, it sounds like we have that much in common", Oirhandir mused. "I love my home and my people, but there are so many places in the world to see and so many things to do. My kind are blessed with long lives, so maybe I will be able to go back and visit from time to time in my journeys."

"I'll kewl you! I'll kewl you bloody bastard bumblebees!" Sunny mumbles in his sleep.

"All those trees and animals...Your home must be a beautiful place full of lovely colours and friendly creatures...I would imagine that a forest would be a wonderful home!"
