Fiend Folio Challenge.

I crit!
I propose that all you active DMs out there should take five random FF monsters and stick them together in a little Side Trek type adventure, rationalise their being together in a plausible way, then spring them and their strangenesses on your players in an upcoming session. Bet you all have fun.

FF Forever!

Edit: Anyone wanna Fork the Thread and we'll give it a FF Side Trek go?

Tentamort
Carbuncle
Nonafel
Witherstench
Mephit

The players are barreling along running from the Nonafel that was coaxed into following the PC's by the Carbuncle they carry. The Carbuncle wants to hurry the PC's cause it knows that a Mephit charged with collecting a whole set of carbuncles is after it.

The Mephit gains on the lot of them just as the party stumbles into a room with a Tentamort placed here to guard treasure. The Witherstench is here as an opportunist that lives off the Tentamorts leavings and will help it defeat any foes.

Will the Carbuncle enrage one or more of the monsters to help defeat the Mephit, what will it do when the Mephit is defeated? In any case the characters are in for a wild ride.

Erg... some social engineering for sure. The key is getting the PC's to pick up the Carbuncle. But what PC in good standing would not want to convince a Carbuncle to give up it's 5,000 gp gem?

A foul Penanggalan named Lucretia has amassed a small army of goblinoids and other monstrous humanoids lead by Flind captains and has been slowly but steadily conquering territory in the Western Lands. One of her captains made the mistake of showing mercy to an inhabitant of a small, occupied Kenku hamlet that was caught in Witherweed (which grows in abundance in the land surrounding the hamlet) and has decided to punish him by relieving him of command of his gnoll regulars and replacing them with Norkers.

Edit (more): Life in the Kenku hamlet under the occupation has become harsher. The Norkers have also developed a penchant for Kenku flesh. The Flind captain is having a harder and harder time controlling his chaotic charges, and the normally peacful Kenkus are coming out of their neutrality and starting to fight back. Enter the PCs who may have just found a weak link in the armor of Lucretia's budding empire. As long as they stay out of the Witherweed...

That is...
Eye of Fear and Flame
Grell
Mephit
Symbiotic Jelly
Terithran

...Gah.

Okay...

The party is contacted by a mage named Hatla-sama, explaining that he is searching for a mirror that allows for transportation between this plane and the Ethereal. He explains that he would like to join them, but he is presently being plagued by a Terithran that will strip him of his magic should he try anything.

The mirror can be found in a cavern that acts in its own way as a small gateway between worlds; a small band of Mephits has appeared. They can be fought or bargained with. One of the band, a Lava Mephit named A'a, knows where the Smoky Mirror is, and is willing to take the party there. However, he warns them, the Mirror is guarded by a particularly malevolent Garbug (Bonus monster!). Sure enough, the chamber is filled with treasure and the Garbug, which turns out to be a Grell charmed and covered by illusion by a Symbiotic Jelly! Most of the treasure proves to be illusory, but the mirror is real.

The party can take the Mirror back to Hatla-sama. A'a offers to join the party and help out. Hatla-sama asks for the party's help in taking out the Terithran, passing into the Ethereal with them to challenge it. A'a and Hatla-sama, however, quickly take the mirror with them into the Ethereal and run off while the party fights. Hatla-sama wanted the mirror both to get rid of the Terithran, as well as sneak over to the Temple of Pelor and steal a holy mace from them from the Ethereal.

It turns out that Hatla-sama's reason for stealing the mace was to turn it over to a hooded gentleman who goes by the name The Funereal Pyre. The Funereal Pyre is in fact one of the Eyes of Fear and Flame, and A'a is his lackey.

This is just one piece of a very large conspiracy involving shadowy forces of evil.

Like Willie, I'm totally down for this, but my Fiend Folio is in a box in a stack of many boxes.

I'd be obliged if someone could tell me what the following random monsters are:

18, 26, 108, 142 and 157.

Dug it out!

So my list is the bullywug, crabman, ogrillon, throat leech and xill.

So here's what I'm seein'...

The site is a swamp on the edge of the sea, infested by leeches of all types (including throat leeches, natch). Bullywugs, lorded over by an ogrillon, rule the swamp, but where it runs into the sea crabmen come out during certain seasons to raid the nearby human et. al. settlements.

When the pcs come into the swamp, they find themselves at a battle between the crabmen and the bullywugs, who are trying to catch some crab meet. A xill, meanwhile, is lurking in the border ethereal nearby, waiting for an opportunity to attack a wounded straggler of some kind or other when it has few or no allies nearby.

I've a secondhand FF on the way in the post so I can take part in this! LOL I'll jump in soon, I promise.

These encounters are all looking good, folks. Keep 'em coming!
