Fiend Folio contents

Rounser, to a degree that's true, but aren't Dispater, Belial, and Mephistopheles "real-life" devils also? They don't seem too concerned there.

Yeah, and Baal. The name Mephistopheles was created for Faust, though, wasn't it? I think some of the less famous devils don't matter as much because Christianity ripped them off other, older "pagan" religions in the great tradition of assimilating and overwriting ideas that they have (think Christmas overwriting a pagan festival, for instance). :p Inclusion of Satan and Beelzebub, being famous names, would have created a lot more breathing down TSR's neck than they got anyway, probably...

According to a few websites I dug up, Dispater was a Roman death god. *Shrug*

Belial is a Judaic demon.

As for Mephistopheles, he was in the old demonology (whatever that is) one of the seven chief devils, in power second to only Satan. Apparently, the myth of Faust dates back a long time before Goethe or Marlowe...

Baal, aka Bel, was a Canaanite fertility god.

Hmm, well since Necromancer Games's ToH has an entry for Lucifer (its part of the free preview even), I guess that means now its only a matter of time before public pressure collapses them right? ;)

I just moved recently and found a copy of my origional Fiend Folio with the Githyanki I think was on the front cover, it was actually in pretty good nick considering its older than some of the people I've played with sometimes :)

Still, it was a handy Character-Bashing implement back in its day, some of it was a bit silly but at least they where unique critters I guess.

He's a Fiend Folio Fan (like myself), and he's renowned for it. :)

He even had an amusing signature graphic of misfits from the tome (for a while) during his stays on some fabled extradimensional dork fortress, or so they say...

"And, lest anyone freak out over "recycled" monsters, keep in mind that those critters are (1) really cool monsters (2) easily accessible and (3) now 100% official."

1) Maybe

2) How weren't they before.

3) So What? Was I not supposed to use them before?

What a lame attempt to make people feel better about reprints. '03 is shaping up to be the least creative year in WotC history.
