You guys are both pretty close. Another name (or perhaps, incarnation or maybe even a separate deity in the same pantheon...historians aren't sure) for the Canaanite fertility god Baal was Baal Zebul. Baal simply means "lord," and Baal Zebul means "mighty lord."
Now recall that this is a Canaanite god we are talking about here. Anytihng that the Canaanites did, particularly in the process of worship (This is where the biblical prohibition of homosexuality came from, btw), was considered a Bad Thing by the Bible. Thus, sometimes when the Bible mentioned Baal Zebul, it was mockingly rendered Baal-Zebub, "lord of the flies."
Beelzebub is apparently a corruption of Baal-Zebub.
