Fiendwurm: Coolest Monster EVER?

I beg to differ... The Orcwort is brand new for 3e and brand new for the MM2 (it did appear in Dragon a few months ago as a preview to the MM2). I wrote up the Orcwort after getting the direction from Jeff Grubb to create a colossal static plant with mobile servant goblin-like children. I decided against making it static and preferred orclike fruit-servants rather than goblins. Jeff Grubb agreed and the Orcwort was the result.

My mistake. I knew I'd seen it before, I guess I'd just assumed it'd been in one of the Monstrous Compendium Annuals.

The fiendwurm was also one of my 'boyz' -- it started as a magical beast/worm with a portal to the Abyss in its belly. It became a much more nastier creature by the time it was finished.

I agree about the templates, though as an old-school Dragonlance fan, there's something just not right about a Death Knight who doesn't have an innate Power Word Kill ability.

Why? I mean he does CON damage with each STRIKE! Who needs power word kill when you got THAT PLUS 100 HD worth of Undead running with you?!! Power Word Kill is just too much if you keep everything else. Besides he advances as CHARACTER class. This make a lich look bad.

If you can wait for the release of the Shadow Branch campaign setting from MonkeyGod Enterprises, we've got not only new lycanthropes, but a new variety of lycanthrope. And no, I'm not going to explain what I mean.

He's supposed to. Deathknights are enemies to base campaigns around.

Besides, if your nice wizard-advancing Lich is still too weak, you could always have him go Demilich

True, but my point is, the Death Knight ISN'T that bad even if you take away his "power word kill" from 2nd edition. Death Knights are STILL the ones to fear, even if you just give it to a 10th level fallen paladin.

But you are right, about Demi-liches. They truly have gotten MUCH worse!! But I like it!

That I'll grant you. Even 2E had much love to Anthraxus, the status of Oinoloth, and the other plague-driven Yugoloth lords. That's one thing I'd wished the Manual of the Planes hadn't watered down.

One point of Con damage per touch attack, a far cry from Lord Soth bringing down a dragon with a gesture. Obviously dragons are way buffer in 3E but to me, PWK is just a "sacred cow" when it comes to Death Knights.

He could STILL do that if he had enough "faith" and the right spell list. He's a fallen paladin for goodness sake! Blackguard him and he's ready to take down ARMIES and DRAGONS!

Sacred cows get slaughtered, and believe me, I take a 3rd edition version of Lord Soth over his Counterpart ANY day.

Er, Power Word Kill was never really something to bring down dragons with.
