FIFTY remakes? Seriously?

Sometimes it seemed like the only reason RDA was there was to make wisecracks. Which was great. :) I know people who hate SG-1 exactly for that reason.

And that was the reason the show was enjoyable, to me. When RDA left, the show wasn't the same and I quickly lost interest. I watched a few SGU episodes, but it just didn't hold my interest. But then again I thought BSG was boring and unwatchable, while I rather enjoy Caprica.

If you think this is any different than the way Hollywood has always been, I think you need to re-examine your cinematic history.
Or look closer at current trends in entertainment media. I just read an article a few days ago (probably linked from IMDB to EmpireUK, Totalfilm or some other such place) whose topic was how the better writing is moving from film to TV productions. On TV you actually have MORE freedom to examine the issues of life and the human condition whereas motion pictures have drifted towards the search for (or reanimation of) the next loud, big-budget franchise because studios see more money there. Exceptions abound, of course, but the trend is very noticeable - even to someone who watches little-to-no network TV such as myself.

Okay, so maybe the sky is not falling - but the cloud layer IS really getting low. Yes, Hollywood has never shied away from sequels or remakes but it's plainly (to me and others) become quite chronic.
