Fighter multi-class into Barbarian - Question

And yeah, the multiclass is a solid multiclass. You won't get a paragon path out of it, but there are plenty of reasons to MC barbarian.
Agreed. It might not be the most power-gamer multiclass, but it's fun & flavorful, and the powers are good enough to justify spending a feat to take one or two of them.

One thing to note: unlike a real Barbarian, your Fighter ought to have a decent Wisdom, so if you take Perception as your multiclass skill, you'll be ahead of the curve.

He does - and I will.

Incidentally, what IS the most power-gamer multicass - in your opinion, of course?

There's a pretty cool 9th level barbarian daily that lets them mark everyone within 2 squares as a free action at start of their turn, every turn for the encounter, and +2 against marks. There are also plenty of utilities that might be worth looking at.

Thanks for pointing those out - I will take a look. Generally speaking, I don't mind losing a little math for the sake of good flavor and roleplaying, I just don't want to lose ALOT - I worry that spending the feats and losing the paragon path in exchange for the multiclass is a sucker's bet. Wanted to check with the pro's before making the decision.

These days, I dunno. I dropped out of CharOp work when Arcane Power hit the shelves -- too much to look at, not enough time in the day.

However, I'd be hard-pressed to out-cheese a Ranger with the Hero of Faith (Avenger multiclass). It's dead simple to use, you can take a 2nd level Utility power to use the Oath twice per combat (and either a Paragon or Epic feat to apply its first use to two critters, thus allowing you to Oath-stab 3 critters per encounter). And best of all, you don't restrict yourself from taking a kick-butt Ranger Paragon Path.

Still, my preference is to twist multi-classing into allowing versatile PCs rather than chunks of one-trick provolone. For example, Ranger (Cleric) -> War Priest takes a Striker, adds a dash of Leader, and at level 16 becomes a very sticky Defender. He's still a competent Striker, but he can cover several roles.

Or the Hexhammer: Infernal Warlock (Fighter) -> Iron Vanguard, keeps all the ranged power of a Warlock but adds some brutal melee power, and can tank like a Fighter without adding to the Leader's healing burden.

1. You don´t need a two-handed weapon for your non-at-will powers

2. I hope you don´t speak about the feat which should give +2 to hit when you are marked, not against marked persons (would be weird on a barbarian)

If you are going into barbarian there are some good synergy to be had for sure. Hopefully your wisdom is quite decent then you can take the feat in martial power (forget the name) that adds your wis when damaging a marked enemy. Go into pit fighter for even more wis damage, then take the rampage multiclass feat + reckless attacker (martial power), critting = crit damage + 2 attacks for str, wis x2 damage. Hope that helps.

Why Paragon MC, why not just take a Barbarian Paragon Path?

It seems you have as much flavour & as many barbarian powers as the other way* - except you can dip with your feats rather than being commited to taking them all.

*except a barbarian at-will & taking one of those would be for power reasons not flavour in any case Brash Strike is easy to see as a barbarian power..

Although the Barbarian paths have some very nice flavor, they are a bit on the weak side. For example, I like Bear Warrior, but I play my Rageblood Barbarian as a pure striker, so the feature that gives extra pushes doesn't exactly excite me.
